Quieting down headers
Yes, I did search but found some outdated methods from vendors who no longer exist or broken picture links.
So what do people run nowadays in conjunction with their LTH setup to tame the sound levels a bit?
I have yet to install my headers but ideally I'd like to end up with something not obscenely loud as I like to zip around without drawing too much attention.
I did read about the Akrapovic rear section/mufflers but the price is very high and I do not like the looks (love the stock tips however).
Thanks in advance!

Comeon man. Don't lie. You didn't search at all.
Your thread has so much fail. Headers are crazy loud, and if you think there is anything you can do to make it sound anything close to stock, you're dreaming.

I used this set up and works great for me.
Rigjt after the collectors, have a mid pipe made with a 2.5 inch H connector. I also have 100 cel race cars with V bands.
What headers are you running ?
Mike H makes a great header btw.

I'm looking at headers too. Question for those that have LTH: If cat + secondary delete is 50% more volume than stock then what % increase over stock/decatted is LTH?? Thanks for answering guys!!

Easily twice as loud as stock if not louder. I couldn't take it personally. It was either sell the long-tubes & go back to a stock manifold or get an Akra exhaust. I chose the latter and am so very happy that I did.

There's no doubt that the Akrapovic system gives you a more refined sound. It's not obnoxiously loud but rather the perfect exotic sound according to the mass majority of Akra owners I have sold to.
I have special deals for those here on the forums interested in acquiring that system.

No one said anything about sounding stock.
I have the MHP/ARH. It's fully catless. Do race cats make a noticeable different in terms of sound levels?
You answered your own question. The only way to truly quiet down LTH is the Akra exhaust. Yes, it is expensive, but it is worth it.

Thanks for confirming.
I wish Akra made some oval/stock looking tips -_-

This thread has bothered me since it popped up.. If headers are too loud I fell like you should just turn in your man card and buy a Prius already. Fast and loud is what its all about .. you know gas tires and oil and if that's not your thing than maybe your driving the wrong car.

Some people have legitimate reasons, perhaps neighbours or something. I'm actually really concerned with the excess exhaust fumes. And I'm not a liberal or concerned about the environment too much. I really don't want to be breathing in bad fumes and stinking it up at a stoplight. Do any posters here with headers and no cats have any experience on this matter? Will high flow cats basically be a nessecity for sane city driving?

I love how mine sound. at first I was like wow this is nuts loud but now I love it and I'm use to it. From stock to catless headers it's at least 3x louder. For me the only reason I kept it cause if you drive normal and cruising it sounds stock. You can control how loud it is.

No Cats - You will get a bit of gas smell.
High Flow Cats do NOT tone down the LTH's all that much.
H Pipes help a bit but still very loud.
I have tried all options to get the LTH's to sound a bit more refined. Akra was the only way that really worked.
The Akra tips are clamp'd on, you can get your exhaust shop to fabricate clamped on stock looking tips and just use the Akra Mufflers.
The Akra Catback can be had for a decent price, have seen them as low as 2200 Brand new for the catback system. The Evolution system is no longer made.

Just a heads up, the Akrapovic Evolution System which includes the muffler and midpipes is still manufactured. It can be purchased through me for both Coupe and Sedan versions of the W204 C63.

Interesting new development from Dearborn:
Hushed Horses: Ford Adds Quiet Exhaust Mode to 2018 Mustang GT
http://blog.caranddriver.com/hushed-...18-mustang-gt/
excerpt follows. Note that every increase of 3 dB represents a doubling of sound intensity, so 80 dB is almost 8 times louder than 72.
In its loudest setting, the Mustang GT’s active exhaust lets out more than 80 decibels of unadulterated V-8 fury at startup, about the same as your average garbage disposal. Quiet mode holds back the raucousness and limits the 460-hp 5.0-liter V-8’s roar to just 72 decibels at startup. That’s equal to the amount of noise that enters an automatic-transmission-equipped Honda Fit’s interior at 70 mph.
While plenty of active exhaust systems offer a quieter operating mode, the Mustang GT’s active exhaust separates itself from the herd courtesy of its Quiet Start function. With Quiet Start, owners of Mustang GTs equipped with active exhaust can schedule when their pony car will start in Quiet mode. For example, if you happen to leave for work while your neighbors are sleeping, you can set your Mustang to start in Quiet mode during early-morning hours.

So does the 2018 mustang have full length headers from the factory ? I don't think so..
