Common leak. It's the upper pan gasket.

Do you know what this kind of repair usually runs? I think what the dealership quoted was just absurd lol

No but, you do need to remove the engine to replace that seal. You can also try cleaning and using an exterior sealant on the seam.

it is A LOT of work to reseal that. mine was leaking as well as from the oil cooler o-ring and valve covers. not 8k though...go somewhere else, and fix other things while you're at it to save in repeat labor. according to https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...ml#post5103018 the engine needs to be pulled out to reseal this pan, so they're probably quoting you an engine out procedure.

i would recommend replacing the oil cooler o-ring, reseal upper, mid, and lower pan gaskets, and replace the oil cooler line o-rings if you have some miles on your engine. mine all failed/leaked/broke/hardened at/by 115k

i had all above done, with head studs, and lifter buckets and spent 5,500 in parts and labor through a buddy's shop. you won't have to do as much as me, but they'll have to drop the subframe a few inches to get the pan out. my mechanic said it was easy and he didn't pull the engine.

OPs car is a 2012 - is this also a good time to do motor mounts?
