Billet Idler Pulleys: Weistec or UPD?
What's up guys
With all this UPD talk today, I figured now would be as good a time as any to pose this question lol
I'm looking to buy a set of billet idler pulleys next week. From what I've read, the stock plastic ones are ticking time bombs... no bueno... UPD offers their set at around $350+ where as Weistec sells theirs for around $500+.
To the people that own either one of these sets-- Have any of you had any issues with the bearings or any odd gremlins pop up due to the billet pulleys? Anyone had them fail prematurely? Which do you think is the better deal? Because to me-- and I could be wrong on this-- but, Weistec seems like a more reputable brand that may cover or warranty their products more so than UPD.... Their bearings may be made from better materials (?)...
At the end of the day, I'm looking to slap these suckers on and not have to constantly worry about sub-par materials, unbalanced products, or anything along those lines.

Had them on my E55 for years. Never had a problem or heard of anyone having a problem with anything Shardul puts his name on!

Shardul is a pleasure to deal with. I'm buying these too, and getting them installed along with the underdrive crank pulley shortly. Things spiraled out of control over on my thread, hope it doesn't carry over to yours for members recommending upd over weistec. Good luck op.

Are you guys who have upgraded to billet pulleys making this jump because the oem ones have failed already or just preventative maintance? Whats the benefits over oem?

I have had no problems with my weistec pulleys. That being said, UPD would be my choice if I had to do it again just due to the price. I replaced the pulleys and belt at 85k when I had my headbolts done just as preventative maintenance. Seemed dumb not to do the belt while it was in the shop, and dumb not to upgrade the pulleys when the belt was done. Also, a couple of members have had issues with the weistec pulleys failing but those guys were running blowers IIRC.

For me, it's purely preventative at this point... Although one of them has been a bit on the noisy side lately... Haven't been able to pin point the exact pulley but switching them all out is just a good idea
