Long Tube Header Exhaust Leak

What are you guys using to seal the connection at the collector? I have MBH long tubes and have never been able to get the clamps to seal. There has always been quite a large leak on both sides and I have the exhaust pushed in as far as it can go. I just saw people are using an exhaust putty, but it sounds like it turns in to JB Weld. Any tips would be appreciated. The right way would be to use V bands, but I do not want to remove the headers.

I have weistec headers which Im told are the same as MBH just rebranded. I havent had any leaks using the clamps that came with the headers. There were slight leaks when they were tightened by hand but after I hit them with a impact wrench it sealed up fine

After I installed mine I went to re-tighten them and ended up breaking one of the through bolts. I'm going to take a look again tomorrow and decide what to do. Also I'm going to have an H added in to my straight pipe instead of an X. It will be an easier process.

Get it nice and clean with some brake cleaner etc, and put a coat of the high-temp Permatex on both surfaces. Allow it to fully dry and you should be good. Pretty easy to dissemble as well when needed.

That’s good stuff. Make sure to follow the directions to a T and allow ample drying time before starting up the car again.

The fact that is a slip fit is going to smear the hell out of the sealant. I was also thinking about using it where the clamp goes.
