P30 Break Rotors
Hello MBWORLD!!
I have a Q about the brake rotors, i need to replace all four of them :\
i am a recent DIYer after being quoted thousands at the stealer ship
The Pads were already replaced previously. Brought all the tools following the HowTo guide here .. youtube etc.
Could i just move back the piston and take the caliper off without taking out the pads out??'
also when the Rotor off what do you scotch bright exactly at the wheel stub?
and are there any more resources for this process? , i know it's not surgery but i wanted to be sure

I would advise you to get new pads AND rotors. Your current pads have been "bedded in" with your old rotors. Re-using old pads on new rotors could cause uneven wear of the rotor & potentially even damage them or not make them work as well given the whole pad "face" is not meeting the whole surface of the rotor.

i've driven less than 75 miles with the new pads... once in traffic, only heavy break once..,,, I will look into it though also
Do you know if these OEM rotors they do have a nice price

I’m not sure but the car has The performance package 2012 and the rotors have not been changed since . I ordered these to replace ( not sure if these are 2 piece )https://www.ebay.com/itm/Set-of-2-Br...ally+Aspirated

For the next time, the regular one piece rotors work fine. You don't have to get the 2 piece. And yes, scotch brite the hub, but honestly, it's not necessary. And yes, you don't have to remove the pads.

It’s easier to hit the hub with a brass wire brush on a drill, then coat it with antiseize or ceramic paste (I sprayed mine with a light coat of high temp paint last time, not sure how that’s turned out yet)
And yes, you can just push the pistons in and hang the caliper without removing the pads. Just remember to go through the bedding process with the new rotors. It’ll be fine.

Man thaNK YOU GUYS SO MUCH!!
what is the Bedding process? ( when all done pump the brakes until they are hard so the fluid fills the piston)?

What's crazy to me is that these rotors appear to be the same ones for my 2014 E63 AZMG-S 4matic wagon... which are 1200 or so apiece.
Looking at a number of aftermarket vendors,.. their aftermarket part numbers for the E63 and the C63 (and a number of other MB models) are the same. ie: Same circumference and thickness etc.
But... if you put in the E63 for this part number.. it (all the damned selection guides that sell Brembo) says they are not compatible. wth? I think I'll just get these from Ebay.
BTW,.. if you want to go even cheaper,.. this is allegedly compatible with the E55s (360mmx36mm etc).. which are also the same part number with a couple of aftermarket vendors.. but they (oem) are solid/not drilled/slotted... those are like $60 or so from places like Rock Auto.

Yea, buying the Brembo branded version of the 2-piece rotor is far cheaper even though it's the exact same product. Since I'm going to keep my car around for a while, I bought my set from FCP Euro for around $850 for the pair with lifetime replacement.
I can also confirm that these 2 piece rotors fit just fine on the 2012 P31, which originally came with the 1.5 rotors.

So P/N 2194210212 rotors (referenced in the eBay link above) will fit a 2012 E63 AMG just fine?
How are they different than the OEM rotors that cost nearly twice as much??

The OEM 2-piece rotors, either the 2194210212 or the 2124210512 are made by Brembo for Mercedes. The Mercedes branded ones are expensive because they are still sold only as an MB product. In actuality, they should be cheaper as they use a cheaper co-cast process to mold an aluminum hub into an iron ring. Basically, MB is making tons of money on them, while the true 2-piece Brembo is a cheaper and arguably superior product.

My 2012 C63 w/P31 came with the same 2124210512 as the 2012 E63. I have since switched to the 2194210212 rotors up front and it fits perfect. I don't own an E63, but I can't imagine why it would not work.

This is excellent information, thank you so much.
May I have your thoughts on this train of thought: I am considering these 1-piece rotors (p/n Zimmerman 0004212012 ) as a replacement for my 2012 E63. I verified that other forum members have successfully used C63 1-piece rotors on the E63 (link to thread), albeit was a W211 AMG -- not a W212 AMG like I have. I do not track the car, so I am not too worried about any loss in heat dissipation / gain in weight.
Do you believe these 1-piece rotors should fit? I think they'd have to, given the cross-compatibility of the 2-piece rotors quoted in your previous post.

As promised, here is the verdict: The C63 1-piece rotors (p/n Zimmerman 0004212012 ) worked perfectly as a replacement for my 2012 E63 floating 1.5-piece rotors.
For anyone nervous about doing the work themselves, it's a cakewalk if you have access to a lift. I went to a friend's shop and did the work myself (under his supervision, haha). The whole job took approximately an hour.
Zimmerman rotor (left) vs OEM rotor.

I verified a lot of this through aftermarket sites like one of the sponsors/vendors here. Their brake rotors for about 2 dozen different models throughout the years are the same part number so,.. I really don't care what MB says in this case. If aftermarket companies are selling the same rotor kits for so many vehicles,.. then it shows me that the rotors from those cars will also fit my 2014 E63 wagon. I refuse to pay 1300 or so per rotor when I can get better (2 piece -vs- the 1 piece on my car) for half price.
Thanks to all who took the leap and verified a lot of this.

Buy solid one piece rotors from FCP Euro for $500 or less for all four. You don’t need two piece rotors if you want to save money and you won’t notice a difference on the street.
