OE TUNING - HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!

I just wanted to let everyone know about my horrible experience with OE Tuning and their service or lack there of!!!

After doing some research a couple of years ago, I decided to go with a stage 2 tune from OE Tuning. The tune was ok, great exhaust notes but the power wasn’t the best. Anyways, I noticed last month that they advertised a sale on this forum, plus they were offering updates for existing customers. I confirmed that they had an update to which they did, and they were also offering more “burble” for and up charge. I decided to go with both any away my ecu went. The turn around time was quick and I had my ecu back in my car in a couple of days!!!

Here’s where is all starts!!! When I got my ecu back, I took my car out for a cruise and noticed that I lost ALL of the exhaust notes and there was no increase in power at all. A stock C450/43 had more exhaust sounds than my car!!! I immediately called Tyler and told him what was going on, he said to drive it for the weekend and if nothing changed to send the ecu back and they would reimburse me the shipping charges. Drove the car all weekend and nothing changed!! I then proceeded to get a shipping quote to send the unit back overnight with insurance. Just so they had a heads up, I sent an email back to them with the amount and I got an email back right away saying that the shipping charges were too expensive and that they could get a better price. That worked for me as they would take care of everything and I wouldn’t be out of pocket.

Monday rolls around, FedEx picks up the package and it was delivered the next day. I called to see how the process went and they said they programmed it too aggressive and that’s why I lost all the exhaust notes. Tyler said that they completed it and it would be sent out that day. I was provided a tracking number so I tracked the package as I always do. This was sent out on July 10th and to this day I still don’t have my ecu!!!

LET ME BE CLEAR, OE Tuning did NOT lose my ecu, FedEx lost it but OE Tuning washed their hands of it!!!! I found out that they didn’t use my original box, they changed it to a med size Fedex box to save money!! I also found out that to save $25 they didn’t insure my package, so now i’m out $2000 for a new ecu and $2000 for a reputable company like Eurocharged to tune my new ecu!! This could of all been avoided if they paid the $25 insurance like I quoted them when they asked me to pay the shipping back. I’ve sent several emails trying to work something else and all they say is that they didn’t lose it and they did their part..........they also followed that up with their shipping policy.

They have not answered any of my emails or phone calls after this!!! These guys are a class act!!

Damn! Good luck with it all. But to leave u high n dry like that, you'd imagine they would have had some sort of insurance on it given its an expensive part. In Australia, the ecu is a touch over 5k and then whatever it costs to have MB code it to your VIN/Car.

I hope you have a positive outcome!

If they shipped it without insurance and fedex lost it OE should be buying you a new ECU period no ifs ands or buts.

Is it worth getting any legal advice and possibly pursuing through small claims court? Just asking out of curiosity, not sure how it all works in Canada - but just thought id ask.

+1, the ECU will need to be coded to the car by Mercedes-AMG.
It's not only about the immobilizer, but it may actually not have .... any ..... factory tune on it, as it comes to you.
Also, reading about how centralized the Xentry system is, this may not even be a dealer activity. It may be a Mercedes-USA or Afalterbach type work. How much these will charge????
I would start making some calls, to get a complete estimate of the grand total.

To deviate just a tiny bit, I contemplated recently buying a brand new ECU for the Subaru.
All the above crossed my mind and I started to ask questions at vendor sites. Then I started to think;
If I pay them the colossal amount for that box with a motherboard processor and some ram in it I should be able to have rights over it.
I should have the right for the ECU to come to me unlocked. Basically like a new iPhone X
Pay full price ? I own it, don't lock it.
Now they may complain that they own the rights to the factory tune, but I would tell them that I want the ECU unlocked and without tune.
That could be a dream come trough.

I've heard pretty terrible things about OE and probably wouldn't ever have my car tuned by them. Good luck OP.

Between this and Eurocharged’s hit or miss V7 tune (MCT), I honestly don’t think there is a good vendor/tune. This is worse than I’ve ever seen on the BMW side lol. If you have a 507/BS I’d just leave the software stock.

But this is ridiculous that insurance wasn’t purchased. I would’ve gladly paid for it out of pocket as a customer regardless.

HD Tuning is too new for me to get an opinion. I’ve seen many fly by night tuning companies over the past years. (Not suggesting that’s them, of course).

Please post any updates!

Why did you not get a handheld device or a obd2 dongle to flash your car with your cell phone?

are they not selling the hand held anymore?

I think the OP has a W205. I'm not sure if they can OBD flash.

OP - There is simply no excuse for the pkg to have been shipped w/o insurance IMO. That said, most likely your pkg wasn't "lost." It was stolen internally. I'd start there with FedEx.

EC V5 is the best of their tunes. Never been any problems and I still use it today. Also eww....no need to bring the smelly Beemer side up.

@op, save all emails/communications with OE. I am not sure if small claims would go in your favor since FedEx was the one who lost it. Yes, OE should work with you in solving the issue but that is really up to their customer service part.

The first thing OP and OE need to do is file the claim with FedEx. Small Claims is pointless. OP is in Canada. He'd have to fly out to wherever OE Tuning is for a small claim case, and then what? He's filing a claim against them for failure to obtain insurance? Failure to obtain insurance is not the cause of FedEx losing the package. Dismissed. This is a FedEx issue for loss of package, and an OE Tuning issue for allegedly bad customer service/shipping policies. Caveat Emptor.

hopefully the package was insured for the value of a new ECU, programming, and tune. if so FedEx will take care of it. Sorry for the bad luck.

Don't forget - there are a few known facts in this matter. 1) OE included/attached a customs declaration that describes the contents and the value. 2) Only a FedEx employee can know what's in the box, what the declared value is, and the fact that it was carrying no insurance. 3) The last known scan location. My advice is to screencap the tracking history while it's still up also. GL.
