Ceratec with oil change

Hi ALL,

Tomorrow I will give my C63 an oil service, as the manual says that the motor needs 8.5L oil I have the following question. I will add 2 cans (600ml) of Ceratec (for the first time) in combination with Liquimoly 5w40 oil.

1. Does that mean that I have to fill the oil till 8.0 liter with liquimoly oil and then 2 cans of ceratec 600ml is together 8.6L?; or
2. Fill liquimoly oil till 8.5 liter and then add 2 cans of ceratec 600ml, together 9.1 liter?

Please let me know, because it is the first time my engine gets the ceratec after reading all positive comments on this forum about that product. Of course I will give the engine also an ''engine flush'' treathment.

The ceratec is going to replace the equivalent amount of oil so you will put 600ml less oil in and add the ceratec to get to the full amount. So 9l of oil + the ceratec is correct.

You really shouldnt need an engine flush as long as you maintain the car. They run pretty clean. At 86k when they opened mine up to do the headbolts, there was no sludge. It was all shiny n oily. Why run the car with something other than the oil it was designed for? Also, I add the ceratec in the middle. I do 4 bottles of oil, then ceratec, then top off the oil. It helps mix it all in, in my opinion.

Thanks for this answer, what do you mean by ''why run the car with something other then the oil it was designed for''? Do you refer to the engine flush or to the liqui moly oil? Which oil are you using in combination with the ceratec?

Ditto. I'm sure it makes no meaningful difference, but adding it in the middle would allow some mixing to take place so the oil pump never ends up pumping straight Ceratec at initial startup.

I'm probably crazy.

I usually pour 1/2 a 5L jug of oil in, then put the Ceratec/MOS2 in that half-full jug and shake it up, pour that in, then pour from the next 5L jug until full.

Don't completely fill with oil first then add the Ceratec/MOS2 or you will overfill.

i completed an engine flush at my last fill up...also filled with Ceratec...great combo.

2 bottles of ceratec is something like 1 quart. proceed to add 7.5 quarts of oil after the 2 bottles of ceratec. if you are completing a total fill of 8.5 quarts. also, make sure you drain your oil cooler.

fyi, the W211 E63's take 9.2-9.5 quarts of which i fill my engine to. the updated M156 dip stick registers 8.5 quarts when full which i ignore.

Bingo! And if you have quart bottles then just add two quarts of oil first and you have two empty bottles. Mix the Ceratec with fresh oil in the previously empty bottles allowing enough room in each to shake and combine.

Perfect, thanks for this info. I am located in Europe (Holland), most of you are located in the United-States. Does it make any difference of using those products into the engine? Liquimoly 5w40 and ceratec.

I don't think the Liquimoly 5w50 is an approved MB 229.5 oil? I don't think any 50's are unless you live in the Middle East. Stick to an approved 5w40 or 0w40.

Excuse me, typed false. I mean of course the 5w40 liqui moly oil. But in combination with the ceratec for this engine in Europe is not an issue?

All of our engines are made in Germany. Not an issue.

don't need to do that...if anything you should be pouring fresh oil into the additive bottle and shaking that up to pull out all the remaining oil additive.

A quick update;

Did yesterday the oil service with an engine flush first and then Liqui moly 5w40 + 2 bottles Ceratec. Good combination, engine runs fine and smooth. For the next oil service I should only add 1 bottle MOs2, no more ceratec right?

you'll always need 2 bottles of either additive due to the oil capacity size of our engines. per Liquimoly recommendations after treatment of Ceratec, next fill up should and can be with MoS2.

For all those running ceratec, I assume after doing the oil change and adding ceratec, you then can run the car till the next oil service. So the ceratec can stay in the motor till the next oil change. At the next change do you guys then add another dose of ceratec? So the car runs permanently on oil + ceratec

Ceretec bonds to parts and is good for 30k miles/50k kms so you run it, then change the oil and don't put it back in for the next 3 or 4 oil changes, most people run MOS2 in those oil changes instead.

The MOS2 is like the ceratec, 1 bottle is good for 5 quarts, so 2 bottles with a change and then yes after 30k miles you can re dose with ceratec as per the label.

Thanks for the info. I'll be adding ceratec at the next oil change. Currently running Mobil 1 5w40, but will probably switch to the Liqui Moly 5w40.

Gosh , this could be interesting...

1. Don't flush as any built up crud can dislodge and block the finer oil galleries .

Shouldn't need it anyway .

What does Ceratec do ?

What is the MB oil spec for the C63 ?
