I know there are a bunch for threads for best tires for drag/street/track etc. but all of them are dated. I would need your advice to know what tires would be the best for my use in today's time.
I own a W204 C63 making around 500whp (dont go crazy on this figure, I have a dyno plot to prove it but this thread is not for this purpose, please!)
I am running the 19 inch multi spoke wheels with 275/30/19 at the back and 245/35/19 in front. My is lowered on H&R so I can not go a size bigger.
I love taking my car to drag strip but I also enjoy the cornering capabilities of the car and might take the C63 to a autocross/track someday. C63 is not my daily driver either. Although I live in Michigan but I never drive my car in snow and rarely in below freezing temperatures. Could you please suggest me a tire for my use. Currently I am running ExtremeContact DW and putting down power to the road is quite a big concern for me.
I would highly appreciate any help that you guys can offer.
will P4S fit 285/30/19 on 10inch wide rims? Stock height. I believe stock rim is 9.5 width. So I’m 0.5 inch more.
Im already running 275 perfectly fine. but could always use more rubber in the rear on these cars....
Technically you could mount it, just I wouldn’t expect the car to handle that great. Also, fitting it on the car is a different story. That being said, I wouldn’t know. I did notice that the MPS4S’s appear to have a slight stretch on the tire compared to the MPSS’s that were on my car before with the same sizes. So that might help with clearance?
I'd take a look and see if Nitto NT05s come in your size. I just got a set in 18s but haven't run them yet. Importantly they came in the proper load ratings.
Second that. I just put on the new ones last summer and they're So much better than the stock Continentals. Quieter, better grip in dry and wet. Not even close.
I wish some member who has experience with both Michelin pilot sport 4s and Nitto nt05 can chime in to tell us which one is better. I guess the OEM 19 inch wheel specs are 19x8 in front 19x9 in the rear.
2016 GTs, 2014 C63 AMG and 2014 C350 Sport (wife's car, she thinks it's an AMG - shhhhhh)
I honestly haven't given a moment's thought to load ratings since my truck days when I had to get load range Es for trailering heavy toys...
What is the proper load rating for a C63 and why all the fuss about it? I always assumed that sport tires were all the same - learned something new today.
(no need for a reply... I've done the search. XL it seems is the designation I need to watch for. Thanks!)
Price delta between cup 2 and 4s is quite a bit and after reading and watch a bunch of stuff online, I felt it's not worth it. Dry grip is a little better on cup 2 but the wet handling is quite worst than 4s. Since I live in Michigan I might need some good wet handling characteristics. Furthermore, 4s wears a lot less than cup 2 as per my understanding. I may be wrong. Please correct if you think otherwise.
The attached picture helped me compare. I might just not go to track that often that I would need a track oriented tire.

Sport cup 2 is a fantastic tire for this car. It handles the weight of the car well, has great grip and gets a good amount of mileage from the tire even with a 180 tw rating. I’m running Trofeo R’s and they are just too shaved and soft for the street and are terrible in cold weather. In warm weather they stick like glue, but when these go I think I might go to the Cup 2.

How many miles where you able to get from Cup 2 previously? A rough approximate would work.
Would you mind sharing what size cup 2 you're running and on what wheel size? I wanted cup 2, but decided against it. My rear wheels are 9.5" and 295/30 was the only size they had.

And lots of folks will tell you that 9.5" rear isn't wide enough to support 285s for track duty. You can read all that stuff and make your own decision. The Michelin site lists 9.5 as the min width for a 285. Maybe if you're just running on the street etc. it would work out. But track guys will tell you that width isn't enough to support the loads through the tire on a road course.

the stock rear size on a black series is 9.5". The factory tire was a 285/30/19 dunlop sport max race, hence my reluctance to go wider. On a previous car I've been on a track with tires that exceed recommended wheel size. The rollover was not fun and I had to raise tire pressure to accomodate. . .that had it's own drawbacks.

Because your car will handle like shït and likely cause you to crash unless you just go to the track for a casual Sunday drive
EDIT: Ok I just looked at these. 200TW and they come in more-or-less the right sizes (not for me, but...). Reviews found online say they’re closest in performance to the RE-71R (which probably means 2/3), but 1/2 the price. Bad news is the load ratings aren’t sufficient for our car on track. That’s a pass.

9.5” rim isn’t wide enough for track on a 285. I wouldn’t even try it.

The Dunlop’s have really soft sidewalls. Shockingly. I used a 285 on a 10” rim rear and 255 on an 8.5” front and they lasted all of one track event before I folded the sidewall in half. And they melted in high heat. Scary stuff, awful tires.

There is really only a small handful of tires that will work with the C63 on track and that isn't one of them. Tires are the one thing you don't cheap out on.
The predecessor of the 595 RR was the 595 R.
A very noisy tire that does not do well in the wet but withstands track use very well, was made for that.
They're popular with the Japanese track car crowd.
I didn't check to see if there's a suitable load rating for our cars.
