Wanting a little more growl! Exhaust recommendations? Resonator Delete/X-pipe/Cat Del

I am looking for a little more growl in my C63. I have a Eurocharged tune but everything else is stock. As much as I would like to install headers, it's currently out of my budget. I'm not looking for much more performance but mostly just looking for noise.

I am considering the following....Resonator Delete, Cat Delete, or X-pipe.

I'm not looking to make my car extremely loud and obnoxious. What do you guys recommend?

My opinion. Remove secondary cats and replace with mikes power pipe, remove resonator and replace with straight pipes. Don’t touch the rest

This is by far the best sounding c63 that gives you the best of both worlds. Nothing too loud under 2500 rpm, sounds awesome at anything above, and will add HP. Keeps that amg growl.

headers aren’t really worth it unless you are going for every last hp which it sounds like you aren’t. MBH claims 110 hp gain but 90 of that is a tune, and 10-12 of that can be gained with mikes power pipe (remove 2nd cats and resonator).

DO NOT GET AN X-PIPE, it will ruin the amg tone.

I plan on removing this entire section, and replacing with either strait-pipes or an X-pipe...
Probably gonna have them welded in permanently, but might splurge for some V-band flanges.

FWIW - the forward section (right-side) is the secondary cats, the rear (left) section is the resonator.
And Mikes Power-Pipe replaces only the resonator...

I thought Mike's power pipe only replaced the secondary cats

Does anyone make an H-pipe? I think that would help it still sound "AMG" vs an X-pipe.

This is incorrect
Mike's pipe replaces the secondary cats which are on the RIGHT in this pic

It DOES NOT replace the resonator.
Taking out the resonator causes a drone in the car at cruising speeds.

It's best to keep that

Does removing second cats affect emission inspection?

No, O2 sensors are connected to the primary cats. Some states may do a visual inspection, but I live in NY and passed just fine.

If there is a visual inspection in your state (CA etc), you will fail if the secondary cats are removed.

Cut out the resonator and secondary cats. Straight pipe right into the cat back. You wont be disappointed.

H Pipes tone the exhaust note down.

NY requires visual inspection, but I passed. Probably depends on competency/care level of the technician doing the inspection.

I have had a C5 Vette with NO Cats and it's passed for the last 12 years. The car is TUNED so it doesn't throw any codes to make it fail, but seldom are they looking under your car. If they do, go to another place. Good Luck!

My power pipes remove the secondary cats NOT the resonator. If you do a resonator delete the I will make you an H power pipe to keep the balance and flow equalized between banks.

straight power pipe ( only if you have a resonator )
H power pipe ( only with a resonator delete )

power pipes are US mandrel stainless steel
NOT cheap China steel or aluminized piping which is bent at any muffler shop using a regular bender. The mandrel bender ensures a true 2.5 inch diameter bends.

As I always say don’t go Honda Civic with cheap exhaust mods and expensive car.

Disclaimer : I don’t have anything against Honda people..lol fine folks I was one of the back in my youth.

Is the oem exhaust stainless?

If not, how do you weld the Vband to the OEM exhaust? I am guessing the Vband is stainless wince the power pipe is stainless?
Are you welding stainless to non stainless?

There is no welding. The V-band allows you to clamp the exhaust together without an exhaust leak.

Scroll back up to Dadcar's pic. On the left you'll see a clamp with 2 bolts that's the V-band. It's also the location you make a single cut.

What I liked about Mike's design is that it's easily reversable

That's essentially what I have. It makes WOT a good bit louder, and start-up is definitely louder/crackly. You also get a little crackling on decel, but nothing obnoxious like those ricer burble tunes. Driving around town though, you wouldn't notice a change in the car with the windows up, and it sounds just slightly louder than stock outside at lower RPMs.

How much can one expect to pay for a secondary cat delete, parts and labor? And is this a weld job or a clamp job?

PM Mike (Post#17) for the cost of the pipe. The quality of the materials is excellent, and the design reuses 3 existing exhaust clamps. You will have to cut one pipe to remove the OEM secondaries, and Mike supplies a new clamp that will connect this section, so there is no welding required. Expect a shop to charge 1-1.5 hr labor for the install. It really shouldn't take that long, but most reputable shops will probably be in that ballpark if they are working on an AMG car.

You can also do it yourself and save all the labor, as long as you have the tools and are comfortable with cutting.

Depends on the shop and where you live. Can be anything from $80-$500.

My trusted shop says the entire exhaust should be removed for this, cut, add straight pipe in place of second cats, and then have the exhaust put back. I was quoted a day's work and $800-$1000...
