Hello everyone,

I was wondering whether there might be a possibility to offer a reasonable plug and play solution for a transmission oil cooler.

Would anyone be interested?

I would be interested, already bought the main cooler from you too. Where you thinking for the mounting location? As I was going to do what a few others do and put it in the opposite side lower outside grill.

What did you have in mind? Over the winter (now'ish - march) I was going to cut the hard lines and adapt to AN fittings so I can fit in a larger cooler.

It doesn't need much. Just something a little larger should do the trick.

It was supposed to be something similar for me.

However, I don't have a location for the new radiator yet. It also needs to be attached with a proper bracket.

I don't have an AC condenser so I have some placement options. I was also considering to re-task my trans cooler for additional power steering cooling capacity.

Not yet. Unfortunately, I have a lot to do at work at the moment and my oil temperature from the gearbox is not causing me so many problems. Only very, very rarely.

If it helps, here’s the parts list for my aux trans cooler, which connects to the Weistec trans pan. Fits right in the drivers side bumper opening. You’d have to remove the windshield washer reservoir and/or install a smaller one for this to work. This doesn’t include the AN lines which I had custom-made locally by DYME.

Thanks, I also got some help from @sickSVT with his setup but he uses the setrab cooler below which I think I checked was the same of similar size to yours.

https://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/p...-female-std625

I just need to buy it all as some parts are from the UK and others I have to get from the US. I was waiting to see if @SRG_C63 trans cooler placement was and what needed to be done to the washer bottle as we need that here in the UK 😄 Then it’s a matter of finding a shop that does this type of work which is hard to find someone who can do custom stuff, thats worked on Mercedes & that is familiar with trans coolers. I think I have found one shop but it’s a 4 hour round trip.

As you are in the UK, perhaps you could get in touch with these people: Mercedes Benz & Smart Specialists | Prestige Car Service | Horndean, Hampshire
Oliver Stoner is a very knowledgeable guy and I can vouch for him

Yeah I have spoken to Ollie before about other things but he is too far from me, I will be using JM Imports for the install as they do all types of cars plus do oil coolers etc with their big build GTR’s

Hi all,

I wanted to quickly relay my experience with Sven!

I have a 2012 C63 Coupe with 42k miles. I've owned the car for about 1.5 years and drive it sporadically in the canyons in and around Los Angeles. Under a load, it was not uncommon to go into limp mode and see oil temps at or above 276F. Obviously this was super alarming. Pretty much the only place I could enjoy my car was Angeles Crest, at night, in the winter (temps would still hit 260F sometimes).

I contacted Sven in December and ordered his oil cooler hoping to rectify the issue. After a very easy transaction, fabrication began and just over a month later I had my cooler in hand. My shop installed it in a couple of hours and relayed they were very impressed with the size, design, and ease of install.

It obviously isn't summer yet, but the effectiveness of the cooler is clear. I would guess my highway temps (in manual mode, with some aggression) do not break 239/240F. Previously, this would be around 260F.

I did a drive with several Porsche friends to Death Valley last weekend. Under these conditions (flat road, 72F ambient temp, manual mode, speed about 90-100mpg consistently) we did not break 239F.

I cannot wait to get it in the canyons this summer. All signs points to success.

Also, temps return to normal far, far quicker than the standard cooler.

BIG IMPROVEMENT!

thank you Sven

The FMU cooler is simply much too thick. The best cooler is as thin as possible and as high and wide as possible.

However, since this is not possible in modern cars, the radiators have to be a thicker and smaller. Any cooler thicker than 50mm will not work efficiently. I got this statement from the radiator manufacturer.

Additionally it could be that the cooling cores from the FMU cooler were of bad quality. But I am not sure about that.

If I had built the cooler like on the pictures, it would have cost much more.

Compared to the 44O kit, my radiator has the same cooling surface in combination with the original wheel arch cooler.

What you could do additionally is to install the SLS wheel arch cooler. This fits plug and play and costs about 1500$ in addition to my front radiator.

Then you have the largest cooling surface you can get on this car without major modifications and a better self made 44O Kit.
Sven can you help with what is needed to do this? (Part numbers and parts needed)

If I look at the part numbers from the 44O pdf this is what I see below but unsure what I need/dont need. I think the hardest part might be the actual oil lines as they won’t work with your cooler because of the mounting position.

A2045004000 - Holder bottom

A2045004100 - Holder top

A2045005500 - Holder left

A2045005400 - Airguide rear

A2045050100 - Sealing Strip

A2045003900 - Airguide front

A2045230000 - Strut

A0019902356 - Clip nut x2

A1685452328 - Seal

A0005456280 - Plug

Just picked up my car from having the cooler installed Saturday. Already noticed a big improvement in temps staying more consistent and under more sprinted driving in M mode never saw above 231. I do notice that temps seem to raise faster when getting on it though. It’s quick to go from 220-230 when really beating on the car when I didn’t see that with the stock one as quick. I did have the shop remove the fender cooler fan, but they also remove the ducting as well. Are people mainly running with no ducting or ducting without the fan?

also looking into the SLS fender cooler it looks like the in and out ports are different then the one in the car right now, but online parts catalog seems to say it will fit a c63. Has anybody actually upgraded the the SLS fender cooler?

I too removed my auxiliary fan but left the ducting in place.
The standard ducting isn't as good as that of the 440 oil cooler package from AMG but does still have some ducting effect.
I also opened up the holes in the undertray behind the new cooler and included a rubber drop spoiler in front of the holes (similar to the 440 Pkg) to create a low pressure area behind to help suck air out from behind the cooler.

I recently reinstalled the ducting without the fan and everything is much more stable now. Temps are consistent between 220-230 when beating it up on the street. In fact I have to hold RPM's between 3.5-5k moving in traffic to get the temps to raise. When I make a pull it brings the temps back down to 224-226. As for the undertray I used the fins that SRG supplied with the cooler. Everything is working perfect.

What I have been looking at since it looks like the SLS cooler is not a direct swap is at least maybe trying to use the front and rear ducting from the 44O kit. The front might work possibly, but the rear there are no studs on the back side of the factory wheel arch cooler, so I guess that wont work.
