Smile Brakes squeal during last few feet of slow stop

Just wondering if any of you have had a squealing brake issue when coming to a slow stop at a light or whatever. Only happens in the last 20 feet or so and only started doing it a week or so ago.
My 2012 C63 has 44, 230km on the odometer now and is on original brakes, but I had an inspection done last year when I bought it and they noted 60% brake pad left, and I've only driven 3,700km since the inspection so what would be the problem? Braking is not hampered in any way and at higher speeds there is no squealing that I can hear over exhaust and road noise.

Anyone else have the same problem? Its irritating. I've washed out the wheels and brakes with power wash to see if it was brake dust, but still squeals.

Thanks for any help/advise you can give.

My 2013 coupe with 16k km does the same thing from time to time on the fronts. I'm not worried but it does annoy me. Tried to do a couple of hard braking and it does help, so could be some dust build-up around the pads. Need to check and clean pads, discs and calipers.

Brake squeal can have many root causes. From glazed pads to not having a nice layer of pad material on the rotors due to lack of bedding the brakes and regularly get heat in them to maintain it. Normal daily driving tends to scrape the brake pad layer of the rotors and then the pads scrape on the bare rotors causing noise. Worn pads are also noisier. Squeal/noise during the last few feet when coming to a slow stop is not unusual and kind of comes with the territory. Performance brakes are designed to stop the car from high speeds and not for quiet doodling around town. FWIW, my C205 started to do this towards the end of last year, then during the Service B in January I found out that the pads were down to 3 mm and about a week ago the brake wear sensor got triggered, so in my case it was clearly due to the worn pads. Getting new rotors and pads installed on Wednesday. I expect that the squeal will be gone then, at least once I had a chance to properly bed them in.

Below is a good video on the brake bedding subject. Take your car out for a proper bedding and see if the noise goes away. I would first get the pads checked, though, to make sure they really still have around 60%. Wear accelerates towards the end of life. My pads had like 70% or so left a year ago when I had Service A done and 8k miles later they were done. I'm now at just shy of 19k miles for reference. Different car and obviously brake wear depends largely on how the car has been driven, but just to give you a point of reference. On past performance cars I got about 30k miles out of a set, so 19k is definitely a record for me .

Stock pads do it. Porterfield pads will get rid of it but don’t work as well at high temps. Great street pad though and what I used.

Thanks for the video and information. I'll try the detailed cleaning of the brakes that DRBC43AMG suggested and then I'll do the bedding you mentioned.

I'll go back to the shop that did my inspection and ask if they can recheck the brakes for wear too.

Thanks again
Glenn

If you are getting brake squeal withe the OEM Mercedes pads, they are near the end of their life. End of story.

Everything else mentioned here previously can definitely be a factor if you're running aftermarket pads, but unless you've made some changes to your brake setup, the OEM pads will not squeal until they're worn out.

All the amg car do this. Even new ones. You bought a performance car, there are compromises for good brakes. Sort of like having 500hp and not getting 30mpg.
