Powerchip - the truth is coming out
There is a thread started at performanceforums.com in the general section under the heading Wayne Besanko. Have a read. You will be surprised.
it’s been 10 years since my involvement with him. What a great anniversary.
h.
but you know...there are others that are still in business that follow some of the same bad business practices.
the worst thing is the part where literally they were just reselling tunes of others and rebranding them as theirs and this went on for years.
it just reinforces the fact that many of the largest companies spend 80-90% on advertising to make it seem like they're bigger or better than they actually are where many of the actual good brands spend nothing on advertising. the companies mentioned, were the bigggggest spenders of advertising and marketing. literally everyone knew them because they spent so much in advertsing, but literally not a single good review came out of any of their products. i grew up in that era so i'm well aware of their fake and misleading advertisements claiming power where they never delivered. the same still occurs but at a much smaller scale. people and companies are fibbing and making up HP figures every day.this all leads me back to what i've mentioned in the past...consumers only see what they see and do little to actually research beyond what is surface level or word of mouth from consumers themselves who don't know right from wrong. beats and beats by dre...and their headphones...pretty much pennies on the dollar as far as actual quality product or components utilized. billions of dollars for a product that would be thrown in the trash at the professional level.
that thread was a good read though...i gave up 1/4th of the way through...it was literally a rabbit hole of deceit and lies to line the pockets and to push popularity for someone who couldn't stand to not be in the spot light.

Yup. Always be wary of companies that plaster the universe with ads. It means they need to use marketing, not quality. Infomercials for things like fad exercise equipment work similarly by just being omnipresent.
Your example of Beats is great. I must admit, I was very skeptical of them being an audio professional myself, but I ordered a pair because it was well rated on rtings.com
I assumed a site like rtings would do a good job because they work hard on reviews. But these in ear headphones were actually *awful*. Just horrificly bad for $20, much less the $159.99 Beats wanted. It's amazing how marketing can confuse even serious review companies that do actually have good metrics.
The Best of Mercedes & AMG
But there's no engineer on staff, nobody to actually think about what the part must do, about functionality, reliability and packaging.
So the part sucks, performs worse than stock and breaks down.
Then you try to return it and the saga begins ...
Then there are people such as the now long gone APS: great engineering, packaging and design, but some implementation issues and terrible customer service, associated with ownership with a short fuse.
Their saga begun in the Corvette forum.
They didn't like that a forum thread became controversial and decided to .... Drop corvette from their product line up.
They were great in the Subaru world, but their customer service caught up with them little by little and in the end ... was the end.
on a side note if you see a company offer tuning for literally every car on the planet. Just know they are using other peoples stuff. Certain tuner websites have very unique rare cars that no one tunes like a veyron or la ferrari but they also do tuning on daihatsu. That'd be like taking your kia into a lamborghini service center. RED FLAG. dont be stupid. No one has time to effectively make tune files for 1000s of cars. Not to mention in this day and age where the oem writes software and firmware updates constantly.

They acted this because they tried to protect their income.
Today with programs like HPtuners almost everyone with common sense can tune their own engines, and more.
