Couple C63 Questions

Hi guys, I’m new to the MB world and recently picked up my 2013 C63 P31 Coupe in early December 2021 after a lengthy search.
I basically purchased the car and drove it home, cleaned it inside and out and put into storage.
The car is in great shape and came stock minus a couple cosmetic mods, res delete and drop in air filters.
My questions regarding the car are:

Does anyone have any idea what this knob is for?
I noticed it while cleaning it and asked the previous owner who bought the car in 2018 and he had no idea it was there.
The car was originally leased so I have no info on the original owner.

My second question is where would I find a replacement emblem for the motor cover?
Previous owner said his mechanic damaged it and he just never replaced it.
I think it looks ghetto without it and needs something there.

I’m really enjoying the site so far and impressed with the amazing cars/builds on here.
I’m a domestic car guy and own 2 Mustangs that make more jam VS the C63 but they lack a lot of other qualities the MB has to offer.
I’m really look forward to driving it and doing some minor cosmetic and maintenance/performance mods come spring.

What knob are you talking about? I don't see anything but some pedals. The engine covers are on ebay. The clips on the bottom break off easily if you don't know how to take them off.

Audio? do you notice a difference in your audio output with you adjust it to one extreme to the other?

Oh I see it now. Yea likely a subwoofer level knob. I'd check inside the trunk to see if there is a cable that looks like a phone jack in there. That would be the other end of that knob.

Ohhh good call on a subwoofer or audio control knob.
I’ll check the trunk for a cable next time I have the car cover off.
I was starting to think it was possibly something to do with an alarm motion sensitivity knob but no indication it has an aftermarket alarm on it.

I’ve found the engine cover piece on EBay for sale but no luck finding just the OEM emblem or a similar replacement emblem that just fits in the hole.
I believe it’s 85mm.

I think you will need to replace the whole engine cover. I don't believe the star emblem is available separately.

Just measure the diameter of the emblem. You might get lucky and find something close on ebay.
If I'm not mistaking it is 81mm.

Thanks for the info and link guys….that emblem looks nice in black as does the air boxes with the black lettering.

I’m thinking of getting ROW boxes for it…..is that still a good mod or should I just remove the charcoal filters if I still have them?
I’m assuming I have K&N filters since previous owner told me he replaced them with high flows but couldn’t remember the brand.
I would prefer AFE pro drys but I won’t know until I check them.

The picture is a bit blurry but does resemble a bass control knob. If it looks like this, I have same type of bass knob for my sub/amp gain level control.

Engine cover emblem ordered and should arrive in 7-10days.
Very easy transaction with Jason Robson

Look I think I will be going for minus the gold and my intake is darker being a P31.

Yes lemonstand it looks very similar to that.
Did you retain the factory stereo and just added a amp/sub in the trunk?
I’m now thinking that’s what the original owner did and once the lease was done he just removed it.
I didn’t find any extra wire in the trunk but I did locate a piece of black plastic loom that would have went over the wire maybe.
I turned the radio on and turned the knob and didn’t notice anything different in the sound.

I just ordered mine this afternoon after exchanging a few messages on Facebook. Very easy and he was very responsive.

I ordered the exact same one (black & white affalterbach logo) and also have the darker P31 intake. ill upload a pic once it arrives.

edit: i found the pricing to be really reasonable - especially considering that shipping to the US was included.

I think I've seen someone put a centercap for a wheel in there.

In the process of ordering new tires for the car and going with 245-40-18 and 275-35-18 sizes on the OEM rims.
I’ve narrowed my search down to Continental extreme DWS06 and Firestone Indy 500 tires and leaning more toward the DWS06.
The Continentals being slightly more money ($60 set).
Car is a nice summer driver only and no track use.

Does anyone have any feedback regarding them before I purchase?

Michelin PS4S seem to be the consensus everyday performance tire.

I chose 235 front and 265 rear which is meaty enough. For any brand, look at the actual tread width spec, sometimes you may only really add a few mm while adding a lot more weight proportionally.

What he said. I'm running 265/35 on the rear of mine. Stock 18" Pilot Sport All Season 4. I think it's only a hair wider than the 260 if I remember correctly.

You guys are going to think this sounds crazy, but the OEM emblem has a screen in it for a reason I think. That plastic engine cover gets crazy hot, as I realized when my DIY carbon cover started to get a little melty. That screen allows heat to get out from under it rather than remain trapped.
I don't have any proof of this, but I bet if you put a solid emblem there - especially a metal one - that cover is going to deform quite a bit. It's only plastic, nothing special. Just an FYI...

Good info. I noticed the screen when I first got mine but never considered it had a function. Germans...

Unfortunately I didn’t have the stock one to compare it to but in pics it does kinda look like a vented screen so you make a good point. I guess I’ll find out after I install it and it’s exposed to some heat.

Received the engine cover emblem from Jason and it looks like a quality piece and hopefully does the job.

For tires I got a great deal on the Indy 500s….so they have been installed and ready to go before the mad annual Canadian spring rush at tire shops.
As mentioned the car is just a nice weather summer driver so with that mind I’m sure the tires will perform well.
Looking forward to pulling the car out of storage soon and doing some maintenance work.
In the process of parts gathering now for it.

Recently changed the spark plugs out of my car and they were well overdue.
The plugs I removed were Beru platin gapped at 45….my question is did MB use NGK from the factory? Or were these the original plugs?
Search resulted in me finding out Beru are made in Germany/France and a product of Borg and Wagner.
I replaced them with NGK 6043s gapped at 40.

Yes factory NGKs. The only difference I could find between the originals and the my replacement NGKs was the blue MB symbol on the side.
