Wifey Tapped Front RW Carbon Splitter - how best to touch up?

Well it lasted almost a year and wifey tapped a Belgian block today.

Is there a best way to touch this up? The carbon fiber underneath is reasonable. It’s just the cracked clear coat that makes it noticeable.

Buy a clear epoxy resin/hardener kit from Amazon for $30 bucks and lightly sand the cracked clear coat down.

Apply a hefty coat and let it sit overnight, reapply multiple coats if needed then sand and polish until it's all smoothed out. Should make it look like brand new again.

I fixed one and you could not even tell, sand it down and get off any loose separated pieces of the clear resin just be careful not to sand into the carbon fabric or it may be noticable through the clear resin. Buy a good quality resin, I used west system from west marine 105 resin and the 207 clear uv hardner. The cheap stuff can dry amber sometimes. Mix apply and build up higher than the original then sand smooth and even then clear coat the whole part and you will never know it happened !

What is best to sand an polish with? It's drying now and looks very promising.

Start the least aggressive, but depends how much you have to sand off (assuming you are sanding off the resin), maybe start with 800 and go to 600 or 400 at the most if needed, use a sanding block or bad or wrap the sandpaper around something so that it is flat and sands the high spots without sanding the surrounding areas too much. if you are going to clearcoat after, then 600 you can stop and spray some clear coat over it (you should really clear it as it gives you UV resistance) you can clear it all or just clear the area and lightly sand and polish to blend.

If you are trying to just polish out the resin, then from whatever grit sandpaper you sand with you want to step up, say 800 to 1000 to 1500 to 2000 to even 2500 or 5000 if you want and then just polish with some medium polish then some final polish to get it perfect.

After carefully chipping off any cracked pieces, taping off good areas and drizzling in the resin, it self leveled down to this. I may just leave it alone from here. Nervous to even mess with a clear coat.

I think it looks really good too! I'm pretty picky and I could live with that. Good work and Congrats!

Looks good - when I fixed mine I had a body shop do the clear as I didn't want to tackle it either myself. As long as you used resin and hardener that has UV inhibitors in it like west system 207 hardener then should be no issues not clearing it, if you didn't use a resin/hardener with UV inhibitors in it, then that spot will yellow over time.
