So I had an issue with my car not starting, when key is turned to start it stays on “Remove key from ignition” I tried my hardest to unlock the steering wheel with no luck. My local dealer would not sell me that part do to bring anti theft part. With that being said they stated it was on back order with an undetermined date. So I am going with the emulator, and doing myself. I will post some more pictures and any problems I encounter. However so far it was an easy job.
I did see a lot of post about people encountering this issue so I decided to tell you how I repaired mine.
Looking forward to it as I plan on proactively installing an emulator soon.

I was thinking of doing the motor replacement but decided to bypass with emulator to avoid any future issues. Emulator should be here Tuesday so I will keep updates as it goes. How was it to replace the motor?
The ESL is not on backorder. They can sell you the part. It's just like ordering a key. You'll need to provide proof of ownership and photo id with matching addresses and names. Good luck, hopefully some cheap aftermarket BS actually holds up.
Mine was easy to remove as it was unlocked when it failed.
Took the ELS, EIS and key to a place that specialized in MB electronics, and they replaced the motor and reprogrammed the lot for AU$400.

According the local dealership here they wouldn’t sell me the part even if I provided proof of ownership. Might be different where you are however they said it was on back order is what I was told by the dealership here. Not sure why I would need to lie about that 🤔
As a parts advisor ordering TRP parts.. I do not mess around. Either bring me a title, or an active registration with your name on it, and a driver's license. Idk why they wouldn't sell you that part.
Dealers are strict with TRP parts because Mercedes can take away the dealers right to order TRP parts such as keys/ ME's/ steering locks/ Anything that is considered theft relevant.. I havent seen the steering lock on backorder but the EIS with non keyless-GO, that has been on backorder for about 7-8 months..

His experience is nothing new. I have a e46 m3. Key quit working. With original title in hand and a valid drivers license in hand I walk into my local dealership to get new key. Nope. Dude wouldn't cooperate. Maybe new and didn't understand or heck I don't even know. Go online to getbmwparts.com and email title and drivers license photo to a guy and boom I get a new key in a week.
yeah that's strange.. that guy just didn't want to help anybody hahaha
sorry to had to experience that.. some dealers may not sell A TRP part without it being installed in there service dept... other than that, I can't think of any reasoning for not helping..
