Unhappy Front tyres worn in 800 miles.....

Hiya all, I've done a little searching already but I'd like to know what would be the main reason for tyres to wear drastically quickly during normal day-day use i.e. no burnouts / drifting

I replaced the front tyres on my car just after buying it because the fronts quickly turned to slicks but I wanted to change them anyway so I didn't care shelling out nearly grand for 4 PS4s.

Problem is, the pressures are correct and my "new" front tyres look like slicks. This is after less than 800 miles with mostly motorway milage at 85mph

The car has been health checked & MOT'd at Mercedes during my ownership & the tracking feels fine & it drives straight as an arrow. I'm stumped!

Anyway, any answers or experiences of this would be appreciated as I'm considering buying budget tyres for the front just until I resolve this issue and that's something I really want on the car as least time as possible.

Try getting an alignment. It’s either that or somebody is shaving your tires at night while you’re asleep. Use your head.

Alignment has to be off. Sounds like toe is off to wear that fast.

First 2 pics are the front right tyre. 2nd set are the front left tyre.

OK, they're not slicks & maybe I exaggerated but I was honestly horrified to discover they are both illegal in such a small timeframe.

I know the second pic doesn't look like they are past the markers but both are shot and past the markers.

I'll go Demon Tweeks & do an alignment as stated and hopefully this issue is sorted.

Looks like some fairly even wear to me. Maybe slight over pressure.

Are you sure they didn't install used tires to begin with?

Slight over inflation and yeah your toe is probably fairly aggressive (stock settings)

I'm positive they were new mate. I've just ordered a pressure gauge just so I can take the pressures before I next move it & I'll let you know what they were at.

It seems impossible that you could put that much wear on the fronts in 800 miles and evenly - what are the date codes on the sidewalls?

Don't take the advise of adjusting to 0 toe.
Or that factory is too aggressive.

A brad new PS4's have about 8mm (10/32") tread depth. How much do you have?

Not sure in the UK but in the US those tires have a 60 day money back satisfaction guarantee and a 30k mile warranty, so worth a try getting them replaced under warranty, they would deny if you had only wear say on the inside from a bad alignment but those are very evenly warn so no reason they would deny and I don't think you can fully wear out a tire in 800 miles unless you are dragging it sideways or did an 800 mile burnout.

just checked today & they were 0123 so less than 5 months since manufacture. Good shout though, I'm glad I checked because I wouldn't have even thought about that.

Unfortunately, it is over the 60 day period now if that even exists here. I got them from a well known site called Blackcircles & I bought them in February. Regardless, I've accepted that I'll get some new ones in a couple of weeks when I'm next in North Wales & I'll get an alignment at the same time.

I have kept thinking of additional factors that could have played a part besides alignment and I think I'll ask the technician at Demon Tweeks (the garage I'll use) to put the wheels on the balancer before removing the 'old' tyres. I'm not feeling any vibrations or anything unsatisfactory but I'd like to at least know that the tyres were installed correctly.

I'll keep updating with the results. This is my 2nd C63 & I thought it would be less problematic than the first but it seems to keep having issues. Anyway, all part of the process.

1.6mm now. I'll try to stick to the factory settings purely because the car is bone stock. I'd like to have it all running 100% sweet before I even consider any adjustments or aftermarket parts.

Every time you mount a new set of tires, get the alignment checked. Always!

Factory toe setting net me ~5000 miles a set of both rear and fronts. Near zero toe is ~15000 rear and 25000 fronts

All sorted. Thanks everyone that said it was just this. I'll get an alignment every tyre change from now on. The car actually drives in the wet now & isn't skipping all over the place.

Camber wouldn't make it handle badly like that, but would increase wear. Those old toe settings were near dangerous though. 😳

Glad you got it sorted and yeah, an alignment with new tires pays for itself. 👍

Wow your car must’ve been scary to drive in retrospect with toe like that. Bet it feels like a new car. Glad it’s sorted.

Has any one figured a toe and camber setting to extend tire life? I was getting tired on my C63 having the tires wear on the inner 2-3 inches and having descent tread outside of there. I won't be nailing turns with the car and i'm sure even with a slightly less aggressive alignment it'll handle better than most.
