2008 c63 gearbox fault

Hi all, I have 2008 c63 with 112k miles. Recently I've had a repeated issue with the gearbox when come off the accelerator rolling to a stop and get back on it lightly there is a noticeable jerk/thud when getting back on power.

Also few times after a heavy clunk it stopped displaying which gear it is in (PDRN) and goes into a what I can say is a limp mode. Once I turn off/on its fine again...
not sure if it's linked but also sometimes there is a vibration/rocking coming when engine is idling and I feel like it's getting worse.
I can't be a only one experiencing this issue after all these years.
Many thanks

Aside from the limp mode issue, I have the same symptoms that you're describing. Not sure what is causing it. The rocking feels like a miss, but no codes.

Yes and the rocking/missing issue is intermittent to me. I can't seem to spot a pattern. I've heard people say this is sign of bad engine mounts but then you'd think it would be constant.

you'll want to do the basics...full transmission service if not done in a very long time and possible replacement of engine and transmission mounts. if both of those are confirmed to be in great working order, you'll then have a list of other things to review.

That issue could be caused by low fluid level. Had the same clunking issue with my 2008 c63 without the gear display being reset. On deceleration, application of light throttle would cause it to clunk like I just ran over a cinderblock. I put the upgraded pan+ filter on as well as flushing fluid out the return line of the transmission. After it drove good as new.

Hey that's great advice and I'm so glad someone else had experienced similar symptoms. Could you please guide me to the upgraded filter + pan and how to draining the complete amount of fluid please ?

Many thanks

I just followed all the things Tasos did in this video, except I ziptied a half inch tube to the transmission line and had it going into the empty transmission fluid container so I could see the level. With the W204 the transmission line you need to uncouple is the line situated above the other in the same vicinity of the lines Tasos shows in the video. To uncouple this line slide back the black plastic clip and pull out the W shaped retainer clip. It can be done by hand or with a pick tool. You can only drain and fill 2L at a time once the initial 5 liters have pumped in after reinstalling the pan. In order to level the fluid off the transmission temperature has to be 45C. As stated the car has to be completely level to do all this. I repeated the draining and filling of 2L until the fluid from the return line looked the same in color and transparency as the fluid being pumped in. If you can get more transmission fluid I would recommend doing this. You don't have to drive the car like Tasos recommends to in the video, all you need to do is start the car and add the last liter of fluid while it is running to reach temp. You can use an IR heat gun or xentry/software to monitor the temperature of the transmission. Once it reaches 45C and there is only a minor drip coming from the drain plug hole you reinstall the drain plug. I would recommend doing this service before spending more money removing valve body etc. This kit from FCPeuro should have all the parts you need at a decent price. https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/mer...n-001989680310
The pump I used was a 6L fluid pump from motive. You can get it on amazon or their website.
you need to get an adapter for the 722.9 drain plug to attach the 1/2 inch line. There are many on amazon/ebay.
2 more videos on how to do the service.
