C63 coupe as daily driver in 2023
Greetings,
I am thinking about getting an used C63 coupe (2012-2015) as a daily driver. Would love some feedback from long term owners or anyone who has done the same. I see cars with around 60k miles used that look nice but am not sure. I know the headbolt issue does not apply to these cars, but the cam adjusters etc is still a possibility. I currently have a 2002 CLK55 and 2006 E55. The CLK is my daily and love the car but it's getting a little old and I'm battling rust issues. Would love something newer and I love coupes. I test drove C43 coupe and didn't love it.
thanks!

I just sold my previous daily (2002 E55) for a 2012 C63 and although I loved the E55, the C63 is head and shoulders more modern and i'm loving it as a DD. The only downside is the engine (w/secondary cat delete) and chassis of the C63 makes you get even worse mileage because its so addicting to tap into it every drive.

I daily drove mine for about 3 years and it was great. The one expense that ends up being way more expensive than you expect is the fact that these cars absolutely eat tires. The factory alignment is pretty aggressive and the negative camber will kill sticky tires quickly, especially if paired with toe being slightly off.
If i was to daily mine again I would probably go with a less aggressive tire compound like an As4 to extend the lifespan of a set of tires

I can tell you I live in my 20 year old / rusty Chevy pick-up, but when it's in the shop I jump into the 507 to get to work. I smile as soon as I pull out of my driveway. I try to never drive it in the snow, but where I live we get coastal flooding. Even in blizzard conditions, when we need to go, we got to go. I run 18 inch E550 wheels with Blizzaks and I am shocked at how well it does. It comers well, accelerates amazingly well and stops way harder than I would have ever imagined. If it weren't for the salt and idiots on the road, I would take it out every time it snowed. It's actually fun. Connecticut is not Chicago, but just my 2 cents. Best

Upgrade to a 12.3 android head unit setup for the radio, throw on a tune to add 80-100hp with no mods and its a great daily with carplay/android auto etc.

Ditto on DD.
I drove my 507 for 2 winters with winter tires zero issues. We have some reasonable hills, and it made it up with zero issues. Braking./handling was excellent with the winter tires.
Definitely agree with @mega_rad that the C63 eats rear tires. I went 2 sets of rears to 1 front, typically 6-10k miles per set of rears.
Moved to an E63 as my winter DD, and some summer duty, and it is much nicer on tires.

I will toss in a question in this thread as I am also considering picking up a 2012ish C63 coupe, but only to drive a few days a week. Is it comfortable for bigger drivers? I am 6’3’’ and 320 lbs and have had an ISF, a GTR, a golf R, and a CTSV wagon as kind of similar cars and they were all relatively tight, but not uncomfortable for long rides. Can any bigger people chime in on this?

Thanks for all the replies. I know I will love one of these cars. Just wrestling with a 10 plus year old M156. I'll just really have to find a well cared for one. I feel like I have to own one of these in my lifetime!

I purchased a 2010 E63 with the M156 and 125k miles on it two years ago. Since then I've only added 6k miles but the car's been rock solid and runs like a top. Puts big smiles on my face every time I drive, so glad I bought it.

I have my 12' coupe since 3 years now and DD until recently. Apart from poor fuel consumption in town, it is very reasonable elsewhere, as long as you don't WOT it all the time, but then I can't resist listening to the M156 make its music from time to time. I have purchased a 12' Smart Fortwo as my DD now and the coupe will be used only on weekends or for trips, or for a quick drive in the mountains. The coupe is a keeper as it is the last of the AMG NA V8s.

I don't drive too much as I don't have a need to but still have a 507 coupe when I do. It's the pinnacle of the perfect daily to me. Super smooth when I'm driving super smooth and an absolute monster when I open the throttle. I also think gas mileage is amazing in this for a V8. I've done San Clemente (southern tip of Orange County) to the Las Vegas strip on a single tank. I mean I was fumes when I got there but it still did it. And I wasn't going easy in the drive up either
My ONLY gripe, if I was forced to list one, would be slightly better entertainment and I don't like the idea of the android screen upgrades.
Im a wide dude and I'm super comfy. I'll caution on the height though. I'm only 5'5" and I feel like my head is about to rub the roof any minute. Maybe I have short legs and a long body--I don't know.

Have you lowered the seat?
