Downpipes only vs LTH

Im considering a set of Armytrix (or similar) downpipes which removes primary/secondary cats but retains stock headers and resonator. Does anyone know how much quieter this is compared to a full long tube header setup?

I would assume removal of both cats should be pretty loud but will the stock header quiet it down?

it will be basically the exact same noise level.

Hey so i was in exactly the same boat as you and played around with a few things over the years. I had the full Armytrix exhuast downpipes, resonator and valvetronic mufflers connected straight to my stock headers and it was loud. However with the valvetronic mufflers it did quiet it down quite a bit when i had the valves closed. I then removed the entire Armytrix exhuast and installed full length ARH with a custom 3" exhuast and to my surprise it wasn't much louder, i would say it is around 5-10% louder. The valvetronic muffler is what quieted it up the most. By the way i have my entire Armytrix trix exhaust with the valve tronic sitting in my storage locker and i would let it go for a killer price if you really want it.

Here is how I would characterize the volume having tried all these things over the years.

Remove secondary cats, Mikes Power Pipe H pipe - 15% louder
remove secondary cats, Mikes Power Pipe straight - 20-25% louder
Armytrix downpipe with 200 cell race cats - 50-60% louder
no cats - full headers or cat less downpipes - 100% louder

this is all with factory back half resonator and mufflers.

I'm interested in this, as well. I don't like the idea of chopping off the secondary cats from the OEM system, so the Armytrix 200 catted down pipes seem like a good solution. With the cats being less restrictive, would I have to have the car tuned to avoid throwing a lambda code?

from my experience yes i believe you need a tune, otherwise the light may come on and off at times, or just stay on.

The Mercedes system is very easy to fool, much easier than my older BMW is. With 200 cell cats, the secondaries I just can like 2 inch extensions and never ever saw a light on 2 different cars no tune goes through obd just fine. Happy to look at exactly the length of the extensions exactly for anyone.

Shout out to @roadkillrob for trying to hook a brother up with some catted downpipes. Turns out the shipping would be extortionate, so it just makes sense to buy a new set from Armytrix.

I've seen plenty of clips on YT of the Armytrix catless downpipes with stock resonator & mufflers, but does anyone have the Armytrix 200 cell catted downpipes installed on their car? Better yet, anyone have a sound clip? They don't seem to be a poplar option. Based on Rob's sound level breakdown above, I'm looking to get somewhere in between stock and HOA complaint.
