New W206 Coming out
Did you see MBZ is readying a new W206? The picture I saw in Car & Driver looked very close to the W205, and it pained me to learn the AMG version will have a four-cylinder engine. How ridiculous.
The base car is reputed to start at $45K, which I relate to my well-equipped 2014's sticker of $48k. If I planned to spend $45 - 50K on my next car, I think I'd much rather have a nice, low-miles E or S-class than a four-cylinder W206.
It's been discussed here before, but I really feel no motivation to go look at a new W205 or now, a W206.

I saw this on Mercededsblog.com. All is not lost:
The new C-Class is powered by the well-known four-cylinder engines, including the new 2 liter clean diesel OM 654 launched last year on the E-Class. A completely new generation of six-cylinder engines diesel and petrol will be available. The 6 inline 3 liter diesel was already presented last month on the S-Class facelift and will deliver 286 HP (one turbo) and 340 HP (two turbo) while the 6 inline 3 liter petrol will deliver more than 400 HP.

The green people are killing them, a power struggle. Seeing where the A-Class are going, is another C-Class still viable-?

Definitely a new world automotive-wise. Still, this IS the golden age of the automobile if you ask me. The amount, variety and affordability of high horsepower vehicles has never been better. It really hasn't been that long since 0-60 in 7.0 seconds was considered very quick. Now, there are a ton of cars than can do it in 5 seconds or less AND be reliable. 4, 6, 8 and 12 cylinder engines to pick from, although almost impossible to find a manual transmission anymore. Makes you wonder if in the not too distant future if V8s with a manual could be collectible cars. You just wonder what the dominant propulsion technology will be within the next 10 years.

The 6-Cyl inline will be interesting engine to see, I always thought a V6 is doomed to be an engineering failure, just as a V4..

And wait for the engine to blow, not to mention electronic gremlins and pay stupid Italian sports car prices to repair? No thanks. You can keep your Mazda 5 looking carbon fiber wicker basket. If you own one, sell before warranty is up...

The car is definitely on the way... Still lot of rumors going around.
The new CLA45s/ A45s are quick if they can get a 2 liter turbo to produce 400HP and jump 0-100 in 3.9 secs - I'm keen to see what they plan to produce for the new C63s.
Let's wait and see.

Previously had a 2015 GLA45 and that little twin turbo 4 was fantastic. Now have a 2919 C43 and it really goes when I want it to. Point is that if you don't focus on the number of cylinders but the performance of the car you can still have a great car. One day the greenies will do us in but not quiet yet.

Since one of the goals for Merc would be to boost fuel efficiency, the mild-hybrid 48V system is bound to make its way to the C-class as well. This will comprise of the ISG (Integrated Starter Generator) bolted to the crankshaft and powering components like water pump, A/C compressor, steering pump, etc. The AMG variant(s) would likely have the Electric compressor too (which contributes to 21hp /184 lb-ft of torque in the -53 models) which should add low end grunt and reduce turbo lag.
The inline-6 engine mated with the 48V mild-hybrid and Electric compressor would most likely be called the C53 and might replace the C43. We might have to wait and see if Merc continues to retain the V8 bi-turbo in the C63 variants. The C63 variants could also get the mild-hybrid/electric-compressor treatment.

Indeed, hard to imagine losing the V8, which is the heart and soul of AMG. On the other hand, nearly everything now is called AMG.

Any update on the C63 powertrain - number of cylinders, horsepower, etc.?
Will a diesel be offered in the US in the W206?

Actually, I think it’s the S205 C63 S. But then I am totally biased and of course, it isn’t offered in the states.

This is why I bought my C63 S last year. I wanted to own a high performance V8, so that when I am old, I can bore everyone with my stories.
I am having to look ahead, to plan which car I buy to keep as my weekend car, when we here, are all driving electric autonomous boxes day to day.

It’s not being lost on the higher-end models like the AMG GT. But the engine sound will be significantly “neutered”. Already the 2020MY AMG GT has lost the backfires and pops that are so entertaining in Sport+.
