Looks like they are not holding back with the 53. Same styling and body as what will be with the 63. Not much down side for the 53, plus with the V6.

A bit disappointing that it doesn't have a handbuilt engine or the MCT 9 speed. I'd have thought with the amount of fuss people made about the old C43 V6 not being one man one engine that Mercedes might have changed that going forward.

Yeah. Very weird for sure.
They gave it the full fledged AMG body styling, unlike the C43.
But then they did not give it one man one engine like the C43 or the MCT.
Very haphazard overall.

Looks like it doesn't have E-Performance tech either, so this is the same setup and M256 as the C257 CLS 53 and W213 E 53? Same engine same 48V mild hybrid? Big fan of that wide rear. definetly makes up for the C 63 S E Performance not having a wide rear, will be interesting what the CLE 63 brings to the table but I imagine the CLE 53 is the sweet spot for most.

Just a guess but they might want to save that for the CLE 63, they also never hand built any M256 before (assuming this is indeed the engine used in the CLE 53) , rumours said they are redesigning the M256 engine and then also hand build it, but as of now, M256 itself remains being fully built by machines. The M139 on the other hand as you know was hand-built when it first came out in the CLA 45 S.Originally Posted by Mayur999

That's what's a bit odd in the newer AMG lineup. People gravitating toward the W206 C43 over the C63, and possibly the CLE53 over the CLE63 if the CLE63 gets the 4 cylinder hybrid setup. Maybe there's some logic to creating a second-from-top model as being more desirable than the top model, but I'm struggling to see what that logic might be. Seems more likely to be a miss-step from MB, who thought people would be wowed enough by high HP and torque figures to overlook the 4 cylinder engine and significant increase in weight that this setup brings.Originally Posted by W205C43PFL

From what Ive read, the CLE 63 SE will have the same engine as the C63 SE - M139L
It just seems very weird to have the V6 in the 53. I guess maybe the reason they dont have the MCT in the 53, like AMPERAGE mentioned is to save it for the CLE 63 and entice buyers to that instead.
I do agree that the 53 looks to be the sweet spot in terms of price, V6 but still getting the body styling of the 63.
Will be interesting to see what the CLE63 comes out as and what the reception of the 53 vs 63 is,
I did not see a mention of the weight of the CLE 53. Was interested to see that.

All rumours for now of course but people are seeing a M256 re-engineered with parts from the M177 or even M178, we'll see what the future holds. Originally Posted by AMPERAGE

Slight correction (although really not a big deal) it is an inline-6 not V6, as a result it is a smoother and it is a more balanced engine than the M276 found in the 205 C 43. I am guessing it is also cost effective to bring the same setup from the CLS 53 and E 53 over the the CLE 53 than spending on R&D again although I do remember that MB already ceased ICE development, so come to think of it the rumour of a re-engineered M256 seems more like a pipe dream.Originally Posted by Mayur999

Wow was not expecting this! The wide body is to die for. This thing is drop dead sexy. This kills not only the ugly M440i but also the FUGLY M4 in looks alone. Not sure if I’m sold on the taillights but I’m sold on everything else. Where do I sign???

The car looks beautiful - most likely aimed at doing damage control given the abysmal feedback that AMG has received around plunking a 4-cylinder (albeit more powerful engine) in their C63S E.
I reckon if they dropped a more tuned version of this engine in the C63S E, it would have received a lot more than the frigid reception it's gotten thus far. Feels like they are buying time with this move - and probably trying to recover lost demand. They still need a 6+ cylinder full fat AMG for around the 80-90K USD mark, but this may buy them enough time to get their strategy right.
Curious to get the groups thoughts - do you think they'll ever go back to more cylinders in the C class AMGs? At a certain point they need to do damage control, but backtracking on a car just before it's global release may be a really expensive move.

With manufacturers and the world in general doubling down on EVs as being the future for passenger vehicles, I personally don't think so. Maybe that could change if E Fuels which are carbon neutral (like the fuel F1 have developed in conjunction with ARAMCO and are transitioning to in 2026) become available to the general public, perhaps we could see ICE passenger vehicles with bigger engines make a resurgence. But I'm not hopeful.Originally Posted by 5ilver-5urfer

I assuming weight of the cle53 will be every bit of 4200 lbs, maybe as much as 4500Originally Posted by Mayur999

Agree on damage control. No one wants the 63 except for the V8 lines. Don't expect the CLE 53 to price less than 100K loaded. Likely 110ish is my guess. Originally Posted by 5ilver-5urfer

Never, MB is full committed to electrification. Unless regulations get relaxed cylinder counts will not go up.

Dealer didn't know anything. Rep was close mouthed. I think their expectations are high and may be last of this engine tranny. They are talking like it will April before I can get a car. But I want to build one. Probably a keeper for me as I don't see as much riding in the future (Age 66). Any info you can glean would be great appreciated...
Interview with AMG Head Michael Schiebe Top Gear UK. It looks like the CLE 63 hinted to be the 6 cylinder.

Hmmm, makes more sense than going four cylinder for the CLE 63 when the CLE 53 is six, it would had been harder to sell if they put a four in the 63 while having a six in the 53. Originally Posted by Bones

Will be interesting if they put E Performance stuff in and how the weight will be.

Finally have time to watch the reviews thanks to those who shared links, so it is a M256 yes but it is a M256 M... uh.. okay. Originally Posted by W205C43PFL

Video with exhaust sound from the M256M engine. Doesn't sound much different in the video to the M139.
