now we're talking, and flat plane like the GT Black Series. Pay less than quarter the price and get pretty much the same engine? Sounds like a win.

About time. Glad to see AMG get their heads out of their collective asses. Getting massacred in sales helped move that along.

Thank goodness!!! I've held off on purchasing a C63 for the past several years - making a calculated decision that MB would eventually see the light of day that a V4 hybrid can never replace the driver involvement with a V8. I do feel sympathy for those who have purchased the existing V4 hybrids as (1) huge depreciations will no doubt impact their vehicles, and (2) loss of its status as a top track/touring vehicle.

The engine and drivetrain aside, I'm also simply not a fan of the current C63 design. It's overly-tamed and lacks the traditional aggressiveness that had been synonymous with the model. I'm now hoping and looking forward to see if MB will modify its exterior design of the V8 C63!!!

Biggest trivia question of them all is how the new V8 will handle PCV! Hopefully no new “club” members with the new V8.

The flat-plane crank V8 doesn't sound very good. Having had the pleasure to drive the AMG GT Black Series, it sounds a bit like a hairdryer from the outside. Very similar to the 4-cylinder due to the firing order. It's why on recent spy videos with sound, I continued to think it sounds like the 4-cylinder C63 SE. Now I know why. The BS also had this sound module. The BS sounds much different inside than outside. Quite loud in the cabin actually, but I'm guessing they'll tone it down for the CLE being more of a road car that people will use every day. Most flat-plane V8s are high-revving naturally aspirated engines, so they have the exotic scream. Not this engine. The BS only revs to 7200 and the turbos mute the sound.

I have a G63. The artificial piped-in engine sound is available only in (1) models sold in Europe where noise regulations are more stringent than the US, and (2) the G580 (the electric version of the G class) to give it the sound resemblance of a G class. The G63s in the US do not have this artificial piped-in engine sound. My guess is that MB will take the same approach with the CLE63 and the C63 - at least the V8 versions.

That is an interesting point and the BS I drove is obviously an EU spec. The EU spec models have the particulate filter, whereas US spec models still only have a secondary cat. In the EU spec models, the secondary cat gets replaced with the particulate filter.

Wait, so to clarify, the G-Roar in the USA doesn't have that same pumped in sound that sound like a V8?

I can only speak to the "G-Roar" for the G class that are US spec'ed. The piped-in sound is a built-in feature for only the G580, but not for the G550 or G63.

All EU spec'ed AMG models have limiters on their exhausts that are more restrictive than US spec'ed models. Given the more stringent rules against "noise pollution" in the EU enacted in recent years, all the AMGs' exhausts have limiters installed at the factory to reduce their growl. In an effort by MB to offset the lack of the emotional growl, all recent EU spec'ed AMG models have the artificial engine sound piped into the cabin through its speakers.

Even though the US AMGs have a louder exhaust note, the US nevertheless appears to be following the footsteps of the EU. There are universal complaints/consensus about the US-spec'ed '25 G63's lack of exhaust sound (I knew this was going to happen so I picked up a new '24 G63 last year - the last G63 v8 without an electronic booster engine). I've driven the '25 G63 and am so grateful I pulled the trigger last year on the '24. HUGE difference between the US spec'ed '24 and '25 exhaust on the G63.

Here's a link to the board topic complaining about the '25 G63's sound. https://mbworld.org/forums/g-class-w...ubtle-now.html

Sorry my focus is on the G63 because that's what I own, but I'm planning to add either the new v8 CLE63 or C63 (probably the latter) once MB puts them into production.

I just hope the "rumor" this time proves to be true for the C63. There were several rumors last year that were ultimately dispelled by MB, which left me really disappointed. Let's hope this one is the exception and the v8 C63 comes to fruition soon.

Yeah, I don't even know if the V8 would fit in the bay or adjustments would need to be made.

That really sucks... I'm hoping this is part of MB's marketing strategy to prevent dissuading people from purchasing the current model (which is just not for me) and increase the demand for the CLE63. I'm frankly getting a bit tired of this cloak-and-dagger thing by MB with the C63.

it will be the V6 hybrid that was slated for the upcoming E63 . The E63 will be getting the V8 now, Direct competitor to the new M3 and RS models both of which will be 6 cylinder hybrids
