I guess there are a lot of trolls in the auto world because MANY people don't think the CLA45 is worthy of the AMG badge are NOT impressed with the CLA45.

The real question is this:
Is TT C6 a troll -OR- is TT C6 being trolled by haters and/or AMG leg humpers ????

That sounds like an awesome project.
I have considered doing a Renegade Hybrids conversion of a 7.0L LS7 in a 911 C4S or Turbo.

But, wouldn't just buying a 2014 E63 or other car with factory AWD be a better option?

Sorry guys, spending 70 grand on a CLA45 is absurd. Who in their right mind spends that cash on a 2.0 turbo car with 355hp?

Sure, some have valid points like "Nobody warranties a car that comes factory with 25+ lbs of boost." Fantastic, but when it comes pushing that much boost there is VERY little room for modifying performance on a light budget. Can an CLA start making some serious power? I'm sure it can, but when you start spending that kind of money you might as well have bought a C63 or even E63. Or, an Sti/Evo, brought that up to 70k in parts AND the car and you have a built motor, huge turbo, full fuel system with insane AWHP if that's what you're going for.

Then comes the argument "I don't want to modify the car." ...Buy a CLA250. I really dont think the CLA45 is the greatest thing to come from AMG. At the very least they should have offered higher displacement or something like a 6 cylinder twin turbo setup.

Not a fan of the CLA45 either, because its just a front wheel drive car with power going to the rear sometimes. They also make it sound like 350hp or whatever from a 2.0 seem so impressive but really you can strap a huge turbo to anything and make any power. If you want a true awd 4 banger sports car, Sti and evo are better choice IMO, but i wont bash you n call you an idiot if you prefer the CLA45 over them lol.

Another observation is AMG awd systems are pretty behind compared to other top sports cars anyways. In the CLA its FWD until you lose grip, and in the others its fixed ratio. I think they need a proper intelligent awd before they can implement it into a more drivers oriented car like a C63 or the amg gt. But i hope they never do :p

^ I wouldn't call a person an idiot to their face and probably admire the car. I'm not one to really judge but I just think it is a crazy purchase.

I wouldn't tick all the boxes on a CLA45 ($60k gets you a good balance), but actually 350+ horsepower on a 2.0 with reliability is pretty impressive. That's 175hp / liter which btw is more than a 911 Turbo S...

I don't think this is the car to mod as the boost level is already pretty insane... actually, just buy the car and enjoy it.

Having spent more money than I actually care to admit on getting a 2.0l track toy to put out 350+ whp (not streetable at all, fumes everywhere, and definitely not as comfortable or luxurious as the AMG), I can really appreciate the engine on this car. 4MATIC and the transmission not so much...

True, because Porsche thought to themselves that having more displacement, cylinders, and potential was important.

The GT2 RS has 172hp / liter btw. I know, not a turbo, still a 3.6L turbo engine.

I agree though, I wouldn't tick all the boxes and just enjoy the car if I had to buy one. But I just don't see how someone can't argue in their own head why they wouldn't get a c63 at that point.

Well ya i an e63 maybe better but its not your own personal built car Mercedes people seem to forget you can still tune them and customize them ya they may not be a Japanese import or a bmw but you can still make your own car by hand and when you already have a c240 that you were crazy enough to dump money into why not spend 3-4 grand on a c32 engine and put it in and double your horsepower and it especially is funny when you pull up to the line in a seemingly slow c240 then blow them away

My guess would be RWD only for the first year or 2..

I have a strong feeling the AWD will be reserved for the GT only at least at launch //
But alas I can only dream for AWD

An E63 is a $1000+/mo payment ride. And a completely different car than the CLA in terms of size, fuel consumption, etc.

A CLA45 can be had for less than $70k and for less than $1000/mo.

Clearly, you could not see yourself buying a CLA45 but for some, it fits their needs and suits their personal preferences.

I was saying the E63 would be in the budget if you got into modifying the CLA in a serious manner. I'm not saying they cost about the same because they don't.

I also understand that a CLA can be had for less than 70k, but so can a facelift C63.

And again, I also get that people have their preferences. Just the value isn't all there with the CLA. However, there is no doubt that I would drool if I saw one and gave the guy a big thumbs up. I would just question his shopping around abilities but I can't really say much for myself on that one.

Anywho, same page, just different verbage ended up with minor misunderstandings.

Unfortunately, I'm just as abrasive in person as I am online.

I'm not shy about giving my unedited opinion and I've had many a heated arguments at the track, and at the bar with my friends.

A young Porsche tech I snowboard with just picked up a 350z instead of the Corvette I offered to buy for him at the auction. I've been busting his ***** about it non-stop and will continue to do so until he comes to his senses and buys a Corvette or AT LEAST does a LSx conversion in a Porsche.

People might not like what I have to say, or how I say it, but I challenge them to prove me wrong.

Bottom line, the CLA45 is a joke.

The power per liter conversation is for LOSERS with SLOW cars.

Back to 4wd vs rwd

I had an early 2009 c63 (yes my tag is old!) and like you all, loved it. Best sounding car I have or ever will own. End of an era.

While I found the wheel spin fun through the way too narrow rear tires, in the end, the inability of the car to consistently put the power down was frustrating. A rear-biased 4wd set up is what I've felt all of these cars have needed for a while.

As for feel? I traded my c63 for a 997.2 911 C4S (I lived in the NE and it was my daily driver - amazing even on summer tires in anything but deep snow). I then moved to CA and hit the canyon roads hard. No one can tell me that 4wd can't be fun! The biggest revelation though was that the Porsche could always put the power down. I could feel the power going up front when needed. The other key factor for me is that I'm not a skilled driver. Good? Yes. Skilled? Honestly, no. Most of us aren't bar the one's that enjoy a lot of track time.

Rear-biased awd helps us keep confidence and control. I'm a big fan. Someone else mentioned that these cars are getting too powerful for rwd. As big fat tuned luxury sport sedans (let's not kid ourselves - this is what AMG stands for and always has - I remember driving in a late 80's 300E converted by the pre-MB AMG - still better than any MB integrated AMG car I've been in) awd is a great addition. If I wanted a track car, I'd buy one. My 2001 M3 was far better than my 2009 c63 in that regard (not others) and, yes I'll say it, a track-tuned miata I drove was better than the lot!

I love the c63. I'm hopeful, bar the sound that the W205 will be spectacular. As a daily driver, it will be my pick. For a better connected solution, the M3 will outrun it on a track (not a drag strip). See how much faster the new M3 laps a track compared to the nearly 600bhp M5...

Fun problem to have folks. AWD S for me!

AMG C63
I really hope there will be an AWD variant

I had a C63 for three years and loved it - except when it snowed when it was a complete disaster. I sold it and bought an RS5, which I love too - but I miss the mercedes. If there is an AWD variant I will be back with the mercedes brand for sure!

I have my name down for a C63 AMG 'S' too. No word on 4Matic for the US. Maybe I should call and get an update.

Tobias Moers, AMG chief, says no AWD at launch.

Random dealer guy says AWD.

Seems legit.

Just talked to 2 dealers in my town and both of them said that no awd for the 2015 w205 c63 amg. One said that they gave back deposits because customers were hoping for awd. One dealer said it would be offored in 2016 model year
