AMG Performance Exhaust option

performance exhaust
As far as i know it is a three way system which you can adapt with a Switch in the Center console to your taste.
The Sound is from silent to race style...look at AMG GT Videos and you get an idea how it could sound.
From 2016 on these exhaust systems are forbidden in the European Community!
In switzerland it costs 1585 sfr which is around 1700 Dollars. It will be cheaper in the US , becuase also the cars will be much cheaper than in Switzerland.
Base Price for AMG C63 sedan is 94900 sfr... so around 105000 Dollars.

It is a political Thing in the EU, noise will be limited to 74 dB for all cars ( these exhaust Systems will be forbidden in motorcycles too!!)
Even if switzerland does not belong to the EU, we accept their laws!
The goverment does not longer accept loud cars, so the influence of oecological groups is clearly visible.
One green politician even stated in a newspaper, that it is time to forbid this kind of exhaust Systems because they terrorise the popualation in citys and crowded areas.
Thats why i just bought my car with a performance exhaust.... it will be not avaiable form january 2016.

74 dB?!? But normal conversation is 60-65 dB
Why won't they just make a law that would enforce using quiet exhaust mode in cities? It would be much more reasonable... Oh, right - that would be too difficult for these brainless politicians. They'll probably ban sex by 2025 - as we all know, it increases production of CO2
I wanted to wait for W213 E63 S because of AWD... looks like I'm going to burn a lot of rubber with C63 S
Edit:
Are there plans for a similar law in the USA? I've been considering moving there for a few years...

These laws vary from state to state and even vary from city to city within states.
These laws are rarely enforced though.

There are some laws regarding to noise levels but only within city limits and residential areas.

I read this comment and I just have to ask the following question:
Does the general public just blindly accept these ever-more draconian laws or is there ever any pushback against the politicians advocating this type of micro-management of society? To equate a performance exhaust system with terrorism just seems ludicrous to me.

I just think it is just plain ludicrous. Limit it to certain parameters and allow it on highways and such. I mean your whole life you dream of buying a super-car like a Ferrari for it's great sound but they pull the rug out from underneath you.
How is this going to affect the sales of the "Exotics"

Its really depends on where you live. My old CLS had headers, hand an X pipe instead of the secondary cats and had no resonators. She was pretty loud and I drove like an ******* but I never got pulled over. I know its anecdotal but thats my experience.

Thanks for the replies.
I found official information on new noise levels (EU):
From what I understand:
1. C63 was approved before 01.2016, so it's not going to be affected by the 1st phase.
2. Current noise level limit is 74 dB - it's going to be a bit lower in 2016.
3. Of course they failed to say what do "more powerful vehicles" mean, but I think that 510 hp is enough to add 7-9 decibels
As a physicist:
1. I have no idea what did they mean by "74 db"... All I know is that they didn't mean decibels - dB
2. They failed to say how are noise levels measured... Drive by at 50 km/h in quietest mode (everyday driving)? Full throttle acceleration? Max RPM in loudest mode? 10cm away from the exhaust? 1m? 3m? 10km?
I found official information on new noise levels (EU):
Once in force, the new rules will phase in new limits by 1 July 2016, 2020 and 2024. The first phase will only apply new engine noise limits to new vehicle types(1). The second and the third phases will bring in lower decibel values and also include all new vehicles produced, two years after they start (i.e. 2022 and 2026).
The limit for standard cars will be reduced to 68 db in 12 years, from the current level of 74 db(2). More powerful vehicles will be allowed a margin of 1 to 9 extra decibels(3). The rules bring down the limit for the most powerful heavy lorries (over 12 tonnes) to 79 db from 81 db. MEPs point out that vehicle noise is also affected by the road surface and tyre noise.

Yes it should allow you to switch between quiet and louder mode by activation of flaps which will flow the exhaust gas in certain way to obtain the wanted sound. AMG engineers have put a lot of research/efforts in order to keep that gorgeous bark we all got used to with the good old M156 . It is a bit more sophisticated than an IPE system but the idea is similar.

Correct! There is an exhaust flap open on near the COMMAND control knob. It's pretty impressive when the exhaust is open.

So does this mean - the stock exhaust that comes with it, is just without flaps? And it is just as loud and sounds just as good?
I dont care about making the car quiet I want loud.
I was under the assumption the performance exhaust made the car louder

If you were to watch the review by Chris Harris you would see that there is a lot more to it. 1 flap opens in between the two pipes to creates an H-pipe. The two other flaps control the direction from a longer to a shorter pipe with slots in them.
