AC, oil and other issues...

My girl and I are driving back from our weekend trip this past weekend. It was really warm day, 95 on the car thermometer. Were cruising on the highway at a leisurely 75-80 when it starts getting warm in the cabin. I didn't think much of it at the time and i just upped the fan and dropped the temp. A minute later and its only warmer. I drop the temp down to low and the fan to 6 and we're getting very little air out of the vents. At this point I turn off the ac completely and drop the windows, we drive like this for a few min and let the ac system cool off. After about 5 min we restart the system and things are working well.

10 min after restarting the system we encounter the same issue. We stop into a town for dinner and let the car sit for an hour or so. By the time we leave dinner everything has cooled down a bit so the ac managed to run smooth for the rest of the drive back.

Issue no. 2 is in regards to my oil. i've been getting little pop messages that say add 1 qt of oil. Now, I checked the level as opposed to aimlessly adding oil and guess what its full. A few days go by same light, again I check and again its full. Now its been a week since its popped up.

Issue no. 3 is in to regards to my dash rattling on rough roads

Issue no. 4 is speaker rattle (also intermittent)

4 intermittent problems means this car will be sitting at my service department for a long time. Intermittent issues are rarely resolved on the first trip as they are very tricky to replicate, conditions have to be just right in order for them to get spotted.

Anyone else having similar issues fyi im at 4.5K miles

AC issue could be an evaporator that freezes up.

bad oil level sensor?

I had the same "Add 1 Quart Oil" come up couple weeks ago, but the oil level was fine and the indicator went away on the next start up.

I also have a rattle, but it's coming from the headliner directly between the front seats. It only does it on rougher pavement and goes away if I push up on the headliner.

These posts really worry the ***** out of me while still considering pulling the trigger on a brand new $85K car! I am waiting to start seeing posts from MY2016 owners to see if all of this nonsense goes away.

i agree with Quadcammer, the ac sounds like something (probably the evaporator) is freezing up.

And as things always seem to work, I typed what I did above and the "Add 1 Quart Oil" came on while driving home from work tonight. Went away after the next startup, but still.

How can something like this happen on a brand new premium car?

Did they not test this **** out before they released it for production? I understand first MY's have issues, but the list of problems is far longer than it should for any first MY premium vehicle, IMO.

I got also this "add 1 litre oil", while driving in motorway - total kms were around 2500. I added some oil, and thereafter I have not received any messages (now 4000kms). Yesterday checked the level - it is "full" but not above.

Like your refrigerator, there are sensors on the evaporator that measure the temperature. If there is a freezing issue, the system should prevent the ice build up. It might be something as simple as a bad evap temp sensor.

Just for info if you've not read the manual but the oil level of normal C classes needs to be checked with the engine cold, the AMG engine however needs to be checked with it running and at operating temp.

Does sound like a problem as so many cases but maybe it is a bit low but your not seeing it because your checking the level when the engine is cold?

Has anyone here checked it as per the manual and then checked it with the engine cold to see the difference in indicated levels?

Sorry was late when I posted that, my mistake. Your right, just needs to be at operating temp. Hopefully no one got sucked up into the turbos and chewed up by a V8 because of my mistake

oil expands with heat, so if it shows its full when the motor is cold and hot.

It is strange to have this "add oil" message, especially if the warning is not correct. What happens if you fill quarter or 1 liter in case there is no real need?

Not good to have too much oil as it can get aerated by crank and not good to have air in oil.
Some engines have a windage tray bolted to main caps to help prevent this.
