Break in - Comfort and Sport mode only?

Hi guys, when you did you break in procedure..
Only Comfort mode and Sport?
4500 rpm max?
And roughly to what speed limit?

Any other break in tips would be greatly appreciated

Treat your brakes nice during break-in

I've been driving in sport+ and in individual mode (having the settings as manual and everything quite aggressive).
Didn't go past 4.3k rpm yet, and the fastest I've driven so far is 130 km/h

Official break in procedure from the manual is
Drive at varying vehicle and engine speeds
Avoid heavy loads e.g. driving at full throttle during this period
When changing gears manually, change up in good time before the tachometer needle reaches 2/3 of the way to the red area of the tachometer.
Do not manually shift to a lower gear to brake the vehicle
Try to avoid depressing the accelerator pedal beyond the point of resistance (kick-down)
Do not drive faster than 85mph
Only allow the engine to reach a maximum engine speed of 4500 rpm briefly
Ideally for the first 1000 miles drive in program C

All my break ins have been drive gingerly until engine reaches a good operating temp. Then drive it as you would. Gettin on it hard , engine braking, downshifting, etc.

My approach was:
  • Warm car properly
  • Start in comfort
  • Toggle between sport and sport plus, mixing up the speeds a bit
  • Gentle on the brakes
  • One time at 90 MPH
  • Never over 4500 RPM

I'm currently at 1100 miles and not one problem or CEL.

I do it all the time. It drops down to 900 when in sport+ mode, and 600 in comfort and sport mode.

I let the car idle down before shut down. Just because you stopped doesn't mean the turbos stopped spinning.

A drive mode won't make a difference as to what the car idles at.. If it's "at 900" in sport+ it means you haven't let it "warm up" as much as you did in comfort.

Cars are going to idle at an arbitrary amount regardless of what mode you're in.

Newer turbo'd cars are oil cooled and the oil circuit continues to run after the vehicle is shut off until it drops to a certain temperature; this includes the oil lines feeding the turbo! So unless you literally just did a 1/4 mile run, slammed on the brakes and shut the car off, no need to let it idle down! Haha

In the C63S it does. In Sport+ mode, and Race mode (Also individual mode depending on your settings) the car always idles at 900 when it's at operating temperatures. In comfort and sport mode it always idles at 600. Even played around with the settings after the car warmed up once, switching between sport mode and sport+ mode, and whenever I went into sport mode the rpm went down to 600. When I went into Sport+ mode it went back up to 900 rpm.

Well that's interesting; basically means he car is constantly under a very small amount of throttle, or that the ecu is delivering a small amount of fuel constantly to bring rpms up. Guess it's basically to engage the transmission faster for better throttle response off the line.

Car looks awesome btw man, I will be honest I'm not a fan of the stripes on the side or the red pinstripes around the wheels. Personally think they are a little, dare I say it, tacky, on an AMG of that class, but you are still young and probably like the more show-offy nature of them

Only one problem though; you gotta stop choosing cosmos black... Metallic blacks don't capture light and have nice clear reflections like a gloss paint will! If you're going black, go with gloss!! When it's clean it looks better, but the metallic hides dust better and swirl marks.

Haha yup.

Thanks. The only reason I'm actually keeping the Edition 1 stuff on the car is because it makes the car look more unique, and since I paid for the Edition 1 package.. Well might as well keep everything on haha. Plus luckily the stripes are actually subtle compared to what other car companies do.

I can't help it man! I just love the Metallic colors! Lol. Also I'm staying away from gloss black since my cousin has a Volvo C30 in gloss black, and boy does that thing show dirt and dust!

Drive it like u stole it...it will be faster in the end, but use back pressure on long down hills, very good to cool it down long well before parked with all the heat from the snails...these cars generate mega heat for sure, surprised by how much..great ride!
