for people with ppm, what is the schedule?

I was told the service schedule is every 5k or 10k miles (can't remember now), nothing else. I like the simplicity, but my gut tells me it doesn't make any sense.

Service is every 10k or once per calendar year.

So I read this thread and I smell fish. It is unlikely of a service department to argue that a service is not needed or refuse to do it even when the customer is fully sold that it is. I am beginning to think that this happened to the ppm peeps. Easier to say not needed than needed but not covered by ppm.
How many of you would have actually had to pay and the dealer said no? How many ppms got a no from the dealer?

Yep dead thread. I don't have PPM and the dealer was initially confused as well. Once I pointed them to the proof they did the work. Sure I paid, but I know better that a LSD does require break-in earlier. All my M cars with LSD required it as well.

I don't think there's anything fishy. It's just utter confusion at the service level. On the engineering level there is no confusion at all.

No question about the validity of the need.
Fishy because there has been a lot more resistance to do the job by the dealers since mb sells ppm.
Imagine going on Monday for an oil change when it's not due. Do you see the dealer insisting it is not needed if you are a ppm customer at the same time doing it without question for a paying customer?

Just for info but I had no service pack on my C63S in the UK. Diff oil was changed free of cost because it's supposed to be a free service, at least it is in the UK for this first early one.

It was like $120 for me to do the service. I don't have PPM.

Pretty sure I mentioned that I faced resistance and I don't have ppm.

Just had the service done. The service adviser said that it wasn't showing up in their system as being necessary, but that they had no problem performing it (I have PPM, so there was no cost).

At the same time, they also dealt with the dashboard creak. I was told there's a service bulletin for it, and that it requires some lubrication for the strut. So far, so good, since the creak hasn't returned.

By the way, what does "sealed" mean? Are they saying it can't be accessed at all? Thanks.

With this and the sticker and the book any lingering doubt is gone.

It will be my turn to do battle with the dealer this week to see if they DO or DO NOT know about this eLSD oil change. Note that although it's an "electronic" LSD, it still has gears as shown in the MB AMG ordering guide. Here's a pic.

So if the drain plug is there, where do they fill it? I am almost curious to mark the bolt to see if they even "touch" it....

I was charged for 2 replacement plugs for the diff. when I changed the lube.
I guess a drain and a fill at 25.99 each and 3 L lube at 19.99 plus labor of 150

Umm so the total was:
$150 labor
$26 x 2 bolts = $52
$20 for 3L = $60
TOTAL = $262 for an LSD oil change!?@!?

You got that right. bolts online are from $15 to $48 and labor is high as that is about 1 hr. labor and it can't take more than half of that.
I never asked price but the oil change at same time was only $7.99 a L and I bought a spare Qt. at Auto Zone and they charged $8.99

Yes mine was close to 300 bones. Also two plugs as mentioned.

There is a mb document stating this is needed. I'll look in my papers to see if I have it.

Mine was like $150-$180. I don't remember the exact price but I know it was less than $200.

C63s has an electronic locking diff....not mechanical. Electrically activated and constantly variable.

There is no mechanical break-in for the electronic diff.

Dealers are just soaking you

"To protect the axel differential gears, the oil must be changed once after the running in phase of 1875 miles".

This is in the manual and on a sticker on the windshield when car was new. I was told that the differential creates micro shavings of metal during break in and that the oil suspends these particles/shavings. By changing the oil you remove the shavings which can cause damage if continually run through the gears.

Thats what Daimler says, thats what my Dealer says, so thats what I am doing.

On a side note, a Campaign (RECALL) was issued Monday about the rear differential plug being recalled and needing to be switched out. Just so happens I am going to have the plug switched out for the recall and get the oil done at the same time. Cost: ZERO. They have to drain the oil to remove the plug so the service will be for free or should I say "charged to Daimler" under the campaign.

If your service falls in line with the campaign then just ask them to change the oil during the service recall.

I generally don't like to post copyrighted or paid for material in here, but you guys seem to have trouble with your dealers and taking this to them may shut them up and get their attention. There is also a lot of misinformation as people like to state opinion as facts, present party excluded of course Please note that the electronic amg rear axle differential lock is code 467.

FYI there are pages 2,3 that further explain how to determine what cars need it and whether or not it's been done.
You can always buy day subscription to startekinfo and download all available bulletins, service and recall notices and other service docs, build sheet, etc. the information is not private, just costs money.
