C63s AMG skidding/traction

Hello guys,

I'm from rainy Vancouver, BC where 8 out of 12 months are rain. Being a new owner of the c63s AMG I drove the car around in rain and a bit of slush and I noticed even when I step on the gas in a straight line the traction light comes on and I feel like the car is braking( for me)? It felt very weird, has this happened to anyone else?

The traction light comes on when the traction control takes over. This could feel like braking, as the car shifts power between the wheels.

Hey buddy, if you're from Vancouver, I'm sure you know where Blaine County, WA is. It was really raining, was drizzling all day. Wet road for the whole of the month!
I've been there last month and boy my C63S nearly skidded out of the road. Even on straight road!! Don't worry about it you just need different rubbers.

What tires do you suggest I get for wet/slushy roads?

No tire is going to fix this problem. Learn your throttle better and come to terms that you drive a high hp rear wheel drive car.

But the Michelin AS3 are a good choice to help a little.

That is exactly what it is doing. When the light comes on, it means one or more of your wheels is spinning faster than another ( slipping ) and the traction control kicks in and pumps your brakes automatically for you on the wheel that is spinning faster than others to help regain control. Hence you feel it is braking for you.

I live in California so I don't experience this pain very often.

Also a new owner of C63S living in Vancouver. This car has little or no grip compare to all the other cars I've driven. A little blip on the throttle makes the rear tires skip. Super stiff suspension is a big turn off. Driving on certain roads at 50km makes the dash rattle to a point that gives me an impression that its going to come apart. There are many cars out there that have superb suspension setup like the 991 GT3 RS, 458/488, LFA to name a few but certainly not the C63S. Little car with a lot of power but it has the kind of power that I can't use. It's the first time that I picked a car I like and end up regretting buying it.

You're driving a c63S in summer tires in slush? Near freezing temps?

get off the road before you kill someone

get winter tires and start looking for a car more suited to Vancouver

I'm in the pacific northwest too. Try avoid driving it below freezing. Its fine when you drive it above 50F even when wet, anything below that is just asking for trouble if you try driving hard.

I currently only have traction engage once in a few days on a cold start and tries mostly, when even the oil temps haven't reached ideal temps.

Seattle area here. No traction problems. Yes, I can make it skid, but it's very controllable and predictable. Don't floor it and use winter tires (Sottozeros for me) and you'll be fine.

Thanks guys most of you guys have been very helpful. I now garage my c63s most of the time during these winter months, I'll still take it out when its wet but I avoid it when there's snow out.

yeah... You definitely should have gotten the 991 GT3 RS, 458/488, or LFA over the c63... What were you thinking?

I daily drive mine in Seattle. It's been a mixture of weather this year here and I've done just fine. The stock dunlops killed me but I picked up a set of A/S 3s and put 285's on the rear. Traction it's much much better. I can actually use most of the power, even from a stand still. I'd go get a set of those and you'll do just fine. I even drove in the snow with no issues. You don't need AWD like some of the people believe.

Souriall91: I also switched to AS/3 plus and 285 rear 265 front. I just drove it today for the first time but, it is certainly better in the cold than the hockey puck rubber of the Dunlop's.

Need more time to evaluate but, I needed a tire change and these are what I chose

These cars come with SUMMER hi per rubber and should not be used under about 40 deg F
If you want to drive it all year you need some all season tires like the others here have put on-- the AS 3 plus or if in a snow area a real snow tire.
