Remap exhaust sounds

Hi all, I've gotten absolutely nowhere with trying to get the local mb dealers to give me the exhaust update so I was wondering if there's another way. Does the exhaust sound (crackles, pops and bangs) change if there's a remap? Is there a particular remap that has a better exhaust sound?
Any help would be much appreciated.

You could also tell them that your car is hard to drive in sport+ as the same update also helps with that?

What's the age of your car? If it was built before 12/2016 it is eligible for that update.

Build date of 08/15. First dealer simply pretended that the xentry tips didn't exist and said there are no updates for my vin number. I made a complaint to the second dealer that my exhaust didn't make enough crackles and pops. The technician listened to it and said it sounded fine even though I showed a video of what it should sound like when revved to 4.5k rpm in sport+
Im astounded that Mercedes Benz is so inconsistent in how this is being dealt with.

One thing everyone has to remember is that when you go to a dealership (at least in the US) for any sort of service, you are not dealing with Mercedes Benz in any way/shape/form. You are dealing with a completely independent company that just happens to sell and service MB vehicles.

Depending on exactly who that independent company is (AutoNation, Group 1, independently owned, etc.), your experience will vary greatly. Granted there are agreements and requirements that the dealership has to abide by to keep in good standing with MB, but they are completely independent from the manufacturer and have freedom to do as the please (within the confines of their agreement with MB).

And in most states in this country (and especially in TX where I live), the vast majority of laws in place protect the dealership and allow way more discretion on the dealer's part than you'd think was ever possible.

All mb dealerships within reasonable distance are owned by the stratstone so unless I drive further afield I'm stuck with them.

That's no good. And what sucks more is that even if MB wanted to do something about it, they are basically powerless to the dealers. MB can only tell them so much about what to do, especially if it's something that has next to no impact on the financial side.

I'm lucky being in Houston, we have a choice. Most people don't know it but there is a great independent dealer in town (Star Motor Cars) with a very knowledgeable service department that will go out of their way to help you. No fluff. No BS. Just honest service. They are the main reason I bought my car.

First off the update makes a big difference gearbox and exhaust wise. A little tip is if they are being stubborn go with a broader problem. Say your exhaust valves are not opening and you are experiencing rough shifts. After that they should give you the update.

When I took my car in it was for a different issue and I ended up requesting the update. They were not accepting of my request at first then I showed them the exact software that needed to be updated:

MED1775' for 'M177'
Software-Version: 1779033200

Gearbox
Software-Version: 0009023731

Following this they updated everything for my car and I was on my way. The car sounds so much better to be honest. The cracks and bangs are loud and when you upshift and downshift the exhaust makes this loud snap noise which i didn't get before. Always reference back to the forum. I had my rear differential fluid changed and they quoted me close to 425 for labor. I showed them threads on this forum where people were paying 170-190 dollars for a differential fluid change. I was out the door 190 dollars. Best of luck with the update

I've only heard this "whip crack/snap" sound on upshifting on my C43. Are you saying with this software upgrade, I can hear a similar sound in the C63?

Note that I do hear this "whip crack/snap" on downshifts currently but never for upshifts.

I'll try complaining about the gearshifts.
Fingers crossed

I had to email a bulletin to my dealer to get them to do it. The bulletin is a remedy for exhaust sound complaints, so that's all you should have to do. I suggest caking merc U.K., or at least threatening it.

Mine arrives next week!

I'm not sure, but that seems like a sensible assumption. You'll have to let us know!

I agree. Would love to find someone who has some data logging on their car before the update and after.

Before the update, it was pretty easy to break traction on command. Both from a stop and even flooring it at 40-50 mph, the rear would scramble for traction. Now even from a stand still the tires don't even struggle until high up in the rev band of 1st gear. Similarly, full throttle at 40 mph or so results in zero traction loss.

I'm thinking this is a poorly thought out fix that gives great sound at the expense of power and response.

Do you agree with my description or do you feel differently about it?
