Question OBD2 port ECU flashing

Does this exist yet? Or do ECUs still have to be mailed in for tuning?

No i believe it does not. After numerous amounts of searching the forums, the ecu needs to be sent out because the car "relearns" and detunes the car back to stock.

This is false. ECU flash ROM is remapped; 'Stock' is the new remap.

Even piggybacks don't have this issue either.

If you take your car in for service and a new factory ECU update is administered, then yes, because it likely remapped back to whatever 'stock' was.

The reason I asked is that at my last Cars and Coffee event, I bumped into a local ECU tuner who says he is working on obd2 port flashing handheld for the 4.0 twin turbo engine. I was especially interested since I live nearby and have a GTS that is just begging for more power.

He'd have a line out the door if he ever manages to bring one to market

The Cobb AP on my N54 335i was the best (and only) thing I ever did to it

I'm honestly not optimistic about an OBDII solution ever coming to this platform, modern ECU encryption is so difficult to crack these days... Cobb didn't even release one for the S55 M3/M4.

Does anyone know how this thing works? It is advertised as being for a C450(C43) which obviously isn't the 4L biturbo, but I assume the ECU would be just as difficult to crack.

Update: I'm dropping my car off at their shop on Friday for them to do some preliminary testing and evaluation. From what I've read, they have a done some pretty impressive work with Bosch ECUs. So hopefully things may happen quickly. Fingers crossed! I was asked not to reveal who is doing the work until it is done. But it's a pretty well known company that many of you may already be familiar with.

I begged Jake to start MHD development for this platform. Android app that is similar to cobb ap for the n54 world. Leagues beyond cobb on that platform. Alot of awesome features (OTS Maps, custom map flashing, logging, gauges, etc..)

Definitely intrigued to see where this goes

I beta tested a good amount of stuff for them. Jake H didn't develop MHD, Jake Y. Did, he says he's prob 6 months out before he can look at it. Finishing some stuff for MHD N54/55 F series too I imagine

For what it's worth, the ECU tuning shop I'm working with just purchased a c63s so I guess they are committed and fairly confident about the outcome of this project. Had a chat with him this morning and I'm excited to hear what they have planned. I'm still dropping my car off on Friday since they said they need a couple cars to test something encryption related. I'll try to get more details and post up what I can.
