Maybe Dinan could chime in here? Are you saying the boxes are either configured for 91 octane or 93 octane? What if you purchase from a vendor in CA (91) that ships to a 93 octane state? Is there a way to check to see if the box is configured for 93, or does it self adjust based on octane?
I would be interested in Dinan confirmation as well. If I go put a tank of 100 octane gas in, do I see the immediate benefit or is moot?
Alex, that was my guess, based on my experience with other tunes on my Audi where it has to be setup for a particular octane. But maybe that’s the difference between an ECU tune and a piggyback.

My gut tells me that gains with race gas would be negligible since it's not optimized for higher octane. But there may be some benefit in preventing knock and/or allowing the ECU to run a bit more timing.
I'm going to do a full write up soon, but I just installed the Dinan tune yesterday and tested it out today. I just did the AMG Academy course last weekend at COTA where I had the opportunity to lap the AMG GTR, GTS, and E63S and I can tell you with full confidence that with the Dinan tune, it feels every bit as fast as the new E63S. Out of all the cars I drove that day, the E63S pulled the hardest and I saw the highest top speed on the back straight. I managed 147 MPH in the E63S and 144-145 MPH in the GTR. I obviously have not done any performance testing, but I will be going to the drag strip soon to get some times. I would guess that low 11's at 126 MPH or is achievable assuming traction isn't an issue... and believe me, with all this added power and torque, second gear is all but useless unless you carefully modulate or roll into the throttle. Even rolling into boost in 3rd gear at low speeds will break the tires loose! Wider tires are definitely in order once the stock PSS's get to the end of their life.
