Recommended tire pressure to soften up the ride on a C63S sedan

Guys,

I have a 2015 C63S sedan and my one and only complaint about the car is that I findthe ride to be rather unbearable. I realize the suggested setting is something like 48 PSI all around, but I am wondering if others are running lower tire pressures to make the car more comfortable.

Suggested settings? I am running the Michelin PSS 265/35/ZR19's by the way.

Thanks to all for any input!

48 sounds very high. I run 36 in the rear and 38 in the front of my coupe. Measured after 20 to 30 min of normal driving to get the tire temps warm.

Lets start with the fact that 48 PSI is not the recommended tire pressure.
The recommended pressure for a C63S sedan is 38 front and 33 rear.--(up to 155 MPH and 3 passengers)
The chart is on the back of the gas door.
Do not use the numbers on the door pillar.
The numbers on the door pillar are only for the EPA so MB can get better mileage to advertise and NOT to actually use in every day driving.

They are standard on the non-S model, but my understandng is that they won't clear the bigger brakes on the S.

If it has air suspension, the rear accumulators might need replacing.

You’ll need to flatten your tires to get something like what it seems you’re looking for. I just drove mine 400 miles round trip, and while it’s certainly harsh, wouldn’t say it’s back breaking...that’s just the car though. It’s harsher than a GT cruiser.

Googled your tires and they where Loadindex 98 and XL ( most ZR low H/W division tires are XL) So they are allowed to carry 750kg/1650 lbs AT 42 psi up to 160km/99m/h, without overheating if that weight is realy on it and you realy drive that speed constant.
The tiremakers even say you can drive 190km/118m/h with 42 psi if W speedrated and even 220km/135m/h if Y speedrated, but keep it at what I first gave.
This would cover a GAWR ( gross axle weight rating is maximum allowed weight to law) of 3300 lbs wich your car dont have .
Better is to add 10% for reserve so a GAWR of 3000 would be better as max.
For higher speed then 99m/h the pressure should be higher.
To make it short, determine the real weights on axles and give the maximum speed you use ( and wont go over for even a minuten), and I can calculate a save lowest pressure .
Normal use weight is mostly lower then the GAWR's so for that pressure can be lower.
The 48 psi would probably be enaugh for the maximum technical car speed of your car, but who rides that as max ?
If you cant determine the weights , try to find empty weight and give the way you load it ( persons and load) , and sertainly those GAWR's you can find on car.
My estimation is that 40psi all around will be save enaugh for your use.

Sorry to hijack the OP's thread, but curious if there was a suspension kit involving springs and other pieces and the end result was a better ride with increased rear end traction what would be the level of interest? The development of the kit was done by a world renowned suspention tuner, not somebody throwing together parts who doesn't understand their impact.

Would like to see a PIC as well. I owned 2007 and 2009 E63 with big brakes and they both had 18 in.??

Quote:

These are 18" wheels mounted onto a non-S C63 which has smaller diameter front brakes than a C63S. Those same wheels would not be able to properly clear the front brakes on a C63S.

C63 = 360 mm (14.2 in) diameter front rotors
C63S = 390 mm (15.4 in) diameter front rotors for standard brakes or 400 mm (15.8 in) diameter front rotors for CCB

Optimally tire pressure should be checked and set in the morning prior to the vehicle being driven. Set pressure as specified on the decal inside the fuel filler door.

What he said^^^
With the pressure correct (sedan 38f--33r) and in C mode for suspension you are good to go.
I just put on a set of the new PS4S and they ride better and are quieter and have better traction.
With all of above done and knowing this car rides firm --it is what it is so get over it and quit whining or put on an after market suspension.
