CEL/Loss of Power on Highway Using Cruise

Yesterday I was making a rare long drive for me and the car (1 hour) mostly on highway. I used cruise control at 80-85mlh for the first time in forever and within 2 minutes I got a yellow CEL along with ESP and collision prevention assist inoperable messages. I lost complete power to the car, no gas whatsoever. I pulled over and the car downshifted very roughly and the engine farted as I shut it off. Restarted the car and minus the yellow CEL still on, everything was fine until I activated cruise control again. Within 30 seconds the same thing happened again. Pulled over and restarted again, didn’t use cruise again and everything was fine for my drive to my destination and home. I had about 1/4th tank of gas so I was fuming out bad gas. I called my tech at my dealer, who is a friend and he has never seen anything like this. Can’t get my car in to service for a week or so, so I’ll update everyone with what they found. I have a 2015 ED1 sedan with an EC tune and BCM or whatever the name is, Italian filters. Otherwise a stock car. I just wanted to share in case anyone else had experienced this before and if they knew what the cause was, really curious. Just glad I was able to pull over safely twice on a very busy highway!

It’s an issue with the earlier tunes. Had the same thing happen a few times and it’s scary as hell. New revision fixed it.

Yes, this is an issue with your tune. My EC tuned coupe did the exact same thing. Give them a ring, it is a quick fix and the fix they do is permanent. Do not take to your dealer.

This is the kind of support you get from Jerry and the guys at EC. Ignore the email title, we keep in touch from my tune in my previous CLS63. My MB tech who is a good friend said basicallly this is the flaw everyone else is confirming above and it’s solely the tunes fault as he’s updated every possible unit in the car and it just happens over and over on the highway, in cruise at 80-85 mph. My tech who said he could remove and ship the tune out but he’d have to charge me for the labor which as you guys know is several hours and a pain in the ***. I guess if you live in one city in the entire world Jerry’s got your back but when his products fail, he won’t do jack for you. Really disappointed right now! Those considering buying anything from Eurocharged, expect this kind of customer service after you fork over your hard-earned money. This my third tune with them and I’ve had to fight Jerry every time there’s an issue. Fortunately in the older AMG’s I cojld
easily remove the ECU myself so I could just ship it back to them for a fix and only lose
my car for a few days and the cost of shipping. Now that things are more complicated, they aren’t willing to support their lomgtime
customers I guess!

This is one reason I went with Dinan. Say what you will about piggybacks, but the tune won't be erased if you go in for service and they flash an update. The whole ECU removal and unlocking process (physically opening the ECU to unlock) is what turned me off from doing it on mine. I wish a company like Cobb would come out with an AccessPort for the M177, an OBD-II flash would be amazing. But it seems there are some major barriers to overcome before that becomes an option anytime soon.

You should've tried Weistec or Renntech, they have previous AMG employees.

I'm with AlexZ on this. 4hrs labor just to get to the ECU. The fact the Dinan tune is equal in performance to the ECU tune should be the icing on the cake!

This issue is not new issue with the new ECUs. These have torque curve calibration issues. But what Jerry is suggestion is not the ideal solution. You just don't shut off a code like that. EC Canada did not do it this way. They actually calibrated the torque curve all over again to fix it for the C43. It takes a lot of time on the dyno to do this correctly. He just needs to do the legwork which by the look of it he did not do for the C63s platform. Send the ECU back to him and ask him to put you back to stock. I really do not recommend getting an uncalibrated tune like that. If you want a cheap and quick tune, go for a piggyback like Dinan. If you want a full ECU tune, send it to one of the big boys. This kind of stuff would not happen with a Renntech tune.
