I test drove a 991.2 S before I bought my C63. The AMG Perf exhaust is much more aggressive than the Porsche sports exhaust.

What does "Cleanpoint Entered" mean?
I have ZERO proof for this, but I'm *assuming* this simply means "problem solved" in technical terms lol. A "final solution reached" lingo.

It's applicable through build date of 11/2017. Not applicable/necessary for build dates of 12/17 and beyond.

To check, if your car has the new software, one can try the following procedure:

Accelerate in "S+" to ~4,000rpm and lift the throttle. You should hear at least (!) 4 exhaust pops. Also, when slowing down in "S+" to a standstill, the 2->1 Shift should take place at 10mph (with the old software it was at around 15mph).

The XENTRY states "up to production date 12/2016". Where are you getting the date of 11/2017 for applicable builds?

Same here. I hear it popping in Sport but it’s not as pronounced as in Sport+

Honestly, I do not think the exhaust got any louder and the pops/crackles are the same.

How frequent do you guys hear the pops and crackles?

For me, if I put the dynamic select to sport +, it pops and crackles ONLY when I manually downshift or crank up the RPM to 5-6k and let the throttle go.
That rings true for me as well. No pops and crackles in any mode other than sport + or race. In neutral/park at a dead stop, if i rev it in sport plus, it pops and cracks like crazy as soon as i let go of the throttle. In sport plus while moving( i dont use race at the moment), i have to take the revs up to 4.5 to 5k (usually in 2nd gear because otherwise i'll be well above the speed limit in most situations IN second gear 5k revs equates to around 45ish miles an hour) and when i let go i get between 2 and 6 or 7 pops/crackles spew out. Usually the longer i hit the revs at that range, the greater the pops and crackles.

No real pops and crackles in sport mode, or even in individual mode with exhaust set to sport plus and throttle to sport. For the snap crackle and pop rice crispies, it has to be in sport plus or race.

I think people are mixing experience with sports exhaust and regular exhaust, I wish people clarify what they have in this post. Sports exhaust is an optional feature for 2016 model. I don't have that, but my does downshift from 2 to 1 at ~10mph (digital reads any where from 13 to 11 as it start to decrease in large increments). Mine upshifts and do not hold gear to produce the pop if you don't drive it like you stole the car. Often tires will loose traction if you do drive it hard and traction control kills power and engine is throttled down. If you do manual/race mode, its the only way to hold the gear, and it will pop (didn't try this but from S+ experience, I am assuming it will). I have regular exhaust, and the service bulletin done, the advisor was nice enough to do it before I even know about this thing. The pops are not as loud as gun fire most of the time. Its a more subdued gunfire pop if that makes any sense. I even manage to get it to pop (once very notably, but several smaller pops) during hard 20 to 85mph acceleration as it popped during shifting in between 2nd to 3rd gear i think.

I have the velos tune now, and it definitely sounds a bit more aggressive (more notable and more often), as the car simply runs more aggressive. But I kind of wish i have the sports exhaust now, I think w/o changing dp or other exhaust component, having sports exhaust is probably the best balance of it being a loud amg car while staying classy enough (just louder than anything manufactured but quieter than any bad aftermarket). I think with sports exhaust, you must get a tune, it'll make the car unmistakenbly an "AMG". While regular exhaust, you just need to drive it like an "AMG" to get that sound.

hmm just checked my car, parked, in s+ throttle on and off, doesn't pop.
in race mode, pulled to 4k doesn't pop. 5k, kind of pops.
mind you i have the regular exhaust, is this expected, does it mean i have or don't have the update? i found past work order campaign 1710P54C67 ESP control unit update, i assume that's not it. yet, my 1st gear down shift is ~11mph. I have the velos tune (dyno coming soon) is it safe to ask the dealer to perform the xentry?

Yesterday I was driving beneath an overpass and I kind of rolled into the throttle in third gear and then let off right as the boost came on. The pop from the exhaust was so loud that it sounded like a gunshot. Part of me felt bad for scaring the unsuspecting drivers next to me, but I was still laughing my *** off at how rude these cars can be straight from the factory.

Your ECU flash will get wiped with this update because it updates both the ECU and TCU. I have a sneaking suspicion the reason you don't have as pronounced pops is because of your Velos tune... unless it didn't pop or crack before the tune.

Thanks Alex, not exactly what I want to hear... but thanks for the warning, I am definitely going to avoid that xentry update until I figure out more details.

Can someone confirm if there is some difference between regular exhaust and sports exhaust with this bulletin/xentry? If so, how is it different. Also if it will for sure wipe aftermarket ecu tune.

That's odd you should have the most updated software as well.

Make sure you're in true S+/Race and not just Individual. I just this out recently lol. Makes a world of a difference.

Of course. I'm in s+ with performance exhaust on and I get ZERO crackles or pops. My c43 sounded better in regards to downshift exhaust crackles.. I don't know what the issue is. I have 500 miles on the car and tried all driving modes.... 🤬

I really only get them in first or second gear - try taking it to 5K RPM and letting off the throttle. Still in break-in so I'm not pushing too hard.

I talked to the shop foreman who works on my cars about this. Last year he mentioned to me that you drive this car hard/fast. I said yes, and how do you know. He told me because of the way it drives and the way the exhaust sounds. Your car adapts to your driving style over time. Since most of you are still following the break in procedure, you won't get a lot of them if any. Once past the break in and you mash the throttle to 6k and back off, you will hear them and they will be there. After several days of that and seasoning the ecu to your driving style. They'll be there.
