What I learned about a rear flics installation today...

Ordered rear flics and was excited to get them. They came from the UK. Once I put them on. They looked really weird. Although it may not show it in the pic. Let me explain. With the designo white metallic/night package. I like to rock the "Stormtrooper" look with this car. All the pics of flics looked great online. Once I put it on. I realized it didn't. I went to google images and found out that no W205 with edition one stripes had flics. So I guess there was a reason for this after all. If I were to remove the rear stripe. I'm sure it would look fine - but I don't want to do that. The issue is, the lines are so clean and that upward jut of the flic coupled with the rounded corners of the stripe. Just plain didn't look right. From certain angles it did. However, from the side - no good. I asked several people for their opinions as well. I guess the only way to know was to try it.

BTW, how do they install? Are there screws and an pro installer involved?

You can screw them in. I opted for 3M two-sided tape instead.

Well at least you can remove them. I'm sorry they didn't meet up to your expectations; so often those things we see online fail to excite as much when seen first hand.

IMO it is the rears that don't look right to me....but then again, I'm just looking at a picture...right?

I’d say remove the rear bumper ed1 sticker and keep the flic. It actually goes well with the trunk spoiler and diffuser imo

I used 3M Super Strength Molding Tape. I clean the paint surfaces off with 409. Heat everything up with a hair dryer - NOT a heat gun. Carefully line things up and press it on. It's not coming off once on. Meaning it won't fall off when driving or anything. It can still be easily removed later without damaging the paint. No need to screw them in. That was just MB's way of doing it.

But is the screw method self-explanatory? Is it easy to do? Or do you need to get a dealer to do it? I’m the kind a guy who tends to not do things myself on the list. Ha ha

You are still taping the outer piece to the inner piece. Inner piece is why you drill. You get the screws and rawlplug type inserts. Tuck the inner piece in and hold it. Mark the holes, drill, insert rawlplug. Then screw inner piece in to bumper cover. Remove tape from outer and attach the inner piece on top of the outer. Not to worry because it's pretty self explanatory just by looking at it. No need for bumper cover removal. Time is probably 10 minutes per side. I took a pic. Far left is the inner piece and the middle is the outer. Far right is the outer taped to the inner. You can see that I taped (thank God) instead of drilling the outer. This is the one I had on for the pics at the start of this thread. Since it was taped. I was able to easily remove it. Hence you can see the tape on it with out the adhesive protector.

Hey where did you order them for? Same part for both the sedan and coupe?

NO. Different shape (sedan vs coupe). Sedan one will "work" on both, but definitely not the same part/shape.

lol, although I would agree it is the least useful of all the aero parts and seems like it's mostly for looks, i would hardly describe it as "ricer." When I think of ricer, I think ginormous wing, flashy decals, and other completely useless parts...also, these are included in the new aerodynamic package. to me, those rear vents look somewhat bare without them...i like the look of the flics.

Yeah - I didn't like them. Might look good on another car with a different color/theme. Certainly looked good in pics when I ordered. Only way to really tell is to get them and try. Opted for leaving well enough alone. Also thanks to gOt BoOsT for giving me the idea to try it without the stripe. So I photoshopped it out. Looked better - but I prefer to leave it alone.

agreed, has to match the color combo. that said, i like how they would look on a white car (probably with your side decals). i think they offset a relatively bare/boring rear bumper. i'm strongly considering them for my upcoming white cabrio model...

I think they accent the car nicely, and think the rear bumper is missing something without them. Oh and mine are original factory equipment.

I've ordered them on my build from the factory too, but dealer is saying it's a VPC install, insinuating there is a different process for ordering them. can anyone comment who's ordered them as an option from the factory? FDNewbie, yours came by "default" on your edition 1, right? You didn't have a choice anyway?

Most likely because of logistics on smaller items. Like certain spoilers, flics, logo projectors...etc. These are done at the VPC. Very common.

Yeah, but why couldn't he add it to my build sheet then? He mentioned the VPC insinuating there is a different process for that...? What's your experience been on ordering these VPC items?
