Will Tires make a Huge Difference Ride/Handling?

Car had new Cheap Tires just added when I bought it. Sumitomo. These are approx $100-$125 a tire.

I just noticed the Fronts and Rears are paired up, but have different models on F/R. Have 2,500 miles on the tires now, but as soon as I can, want to get some Michelin Pilot Sport 4S’s.

ON Now:
HTR ZIII Rears (had good reviews)
HTR A/S PO2 Fronts (decent Reviews)

I replaced rear tires on my 2019 C63S coupe a few days ago, only driven 6000kms on them. Had a huge puncture and couldn’t be repaired. Changed to 305/30/20 PS4S and wow the difference is amazing. Before I had to gradually step on the accelerator to avoid losing traction, now I can just floor it and no grip issues anymore.

I don't know this tire and a quick search didn't yield any reviews or comparisons on Tirerack, which is a good source to compare tires. But to answer your questions, yes the right tire can make a difference. The tires are the only thing between your car and the road. Things like steering response, grip, noise ride comfort can vary quite a bit between different tires. As mentioned above, one of the best street performance summer tire currently is the PS4S. However, equally important is using the correct tire pressure. The C63S in particular has a wide range of different recommended tire pressures depending on load and top speed. Especially comfort gets pretty bad if you use too high of a tire pressure for your current load. There's a sticker inside the fuel door with all the different recommended tire pressures based on type/size of tire, number of passengers, cargo and top speed. Use the correct ones.

I'm also planning on replacing the stock PSS with PS4S. I've done 10,000 km on them so far. Do 305s fit w/o issues on the stock wheels? How does it look? I like the somewhat stretched look of the stock 285s. Mind posting a picture?

The only issue I found is when on comfort suspension and hitting big bumps in the road at speed it will rub a bit and you can hear it (heart dropping), but no issues when in sport or sport plus suspension modes. Will post pics soon.

I see. Well, that's not good then. I go canyon carving a lot, so that sounds like it will rub in hard corners probably even in S or S+. Do you know if it rubs on the inside (touching part of the suspension) or outside (fender)? The former could be corrected with spacers, but if it's already rubbing on the fenders, then spacers will just make it worse.

Outside fender black plastic protector so spacers won’t help.

For the difference it makes in grip and acceleration, it’s hard not to keep the 305s.

Thanks. Well, that puts the kibosh on putting spacers on even with the stock size if 20 mm wider tires (10 on each side) already cause it to rub. Yes, the extra grip of more rubber would be nice, but not if it results in rubbing when having fun in the canyons. The PS4S is gripper than the PSS anyway, so I'll probably go with stock size first and go from there.

Good idea especially if you’re going at it through the canyons.

Thanks for the pics. Yeah, they stick out quite a bit past the wheel. I don't like that look, but now I see what you mean by plastic protector. We don't have that protector on US spec cars, but it still looks like it's gonna be too close to the rear bumper. Now I also know why I had to sign a waiver to not put chains on it. There's clearly not enough room.

Yeah definitely no chains. Personally I like the look from the rear, makes it look wider. Anyways I’ll keep driving and see how I go, not sure of any other solution than to drive in sport suspension as that’s what’s currently working with me. Maybe someone has some better ideas. Plus they’re expensive so I don’t want to change again so soon.

Just noticed here is what’s on there now.

HTR ZIII Rears. (had good reviews)
HTR A/S PO2 Fronts (decent reviews)

I’m considering getting Michelin Pilot Sport 4S.

I know these are Amazing Tires, anything else to consider, or stick with Pilot Sports 4S’s?

They aren’t that expensive for how good they are. Under $975 with tax for just tires. Mounted, Warranty ala Discount Tire, $1,175 out the door.

If price is not a big factor, then no there is nothing else to consider. PS4S are the best tires out there right now for daily driving performance.

Thanks that is what I will get! That gives me a reason to have fun when the time calls for it to wear these out a little.

So the problem is that black plastic protector or whatever it is, it overhangs on the inside of the wheel arches causing it to rub on heavy bumps in the road instead of allowing the wheel to sink in behind it. You were saying the US models do not come fitted with these so I think it would be better without them. Not sure why they put them for our models here though.

So I found this if anyone’s interested, apparently these are the ‘Wheel Arch Widenings’. They’re fitted here just to pass regulations.

Falken Azenis FK510 are a very good tire that are more affordable and comparable

Anybody else put 305's on a coupe? Do they rub?

Otherwise, I guess you have to go aftermarket and change the offset to push the wheels in a bit so they fit. I know that Carbahn (Dinan's new shop) has done this and they appear to work quite well.
