2021 Mercedes C63s AMG Coupe
I can certainly understand that. I think there are enough signs and information making the V8 a very very unlikely scenario. AMG has already said that all future AMGs will be AWD and electrified. Electrifying the V8 would make it too heavy and the power figures would be out of line with the rest of the AMG lineup. The C63S already makes over 500 HP as is. What's electrification supposed to add other than a lot of weight? Electrification only makes sense if they replace the V8 with a lighter engine that makes less power and then use electrification to get the power figures back up over 500 HP. I think the only question is whether the 4 cylinder is really true, or if it's gonna be a 6 cylinder, but thinking it's gonna be an 8 cylinder is wishful thinking. AMG so far has used electrification not just for efficiency, but for power gains. Audi has electrified the all-new RS6 in a different way for comparison. They added bigger turbos to increase the power quite a bit, and then added mild hybrid to spool the turbos electrically and eliminate the bigger turbo lag that comes with bigger turbos and also use it to fancy up the auto start/stop system. That could be an avenue for AMG if their goal is to make the C63S closer to 600 HP, but I doubt that's gonna happen. The RS6 is in a different weight class, similar to the GT73 which is gonna use hybrid to make a ton more HP. V8 hybrid could make sense for a future C63 Black Series perhaps, or a C73 if the 73 series is gonna be carried over to all the other models.

Yep, we know they are working on it. The GT73 4-door will have it, so the question is, is there gonna be a whole new 73 series that spans all the AMG models, or is it just gonna be the GT73 and perhaps GT coupe variants. I'm curious about the upcoming GT Black Series. It's gonna have a new power plant and from some Nurburgring spy videos it doesn't sound like a V8, or at least the exhaust sound is significantly plainer than the current GT models.

Isn't the M176 variant used in S560, GLE580 and GLS580 already the V8 hybrid with the same technology as the 48V electric system in M256? I agree that these cars are much heavier compared to the current C63, but I feel it is possible to reduce the weight to some extent like they do with each generation. Or this might become the C73 variant like you described.

Here's a video clip of the AMG GT R Black Series prototype testing at the Nuburgring. It obviously doesn't have a V8 and there's speculation that it has the I4 + electrification combo unit.

Also a typical V8 is unbalanced, so you will hear some sort of a rumble, even if it is quiet in volume. I can't hear any,

It has a different hood, extra aero bits, and the big apparatus on the roof of the one GT R is for monitoring the suspension. That car is definitely being used for more than just testing the motor. It’s most likely the Black Series of the GT R.

If you swipe through the photos, there is a video at the end. Does not sound like a 4 banger exactly. I feel like that is a flatplane V8. Or may be an I6? Bit confusing.

Yeah a 4 Cylinder in the 2021 C63s is blasphemy and will prolly cost more than a 2020 C63s. Anybody jumping ship to Ford?
2020 C63s Coupe - 503hp - Base Price $77,500
2020 Ford GT500 - 760hp - Base Price $73,995
2020 C63s Coupe - 503hp - Base Price $77,500

The Audi TT RS is also going electric.
The Ford Mustang has an electric model.
Electric cars are the future, but not in my future. How can people travel long distances in an electric car? The infrastructure is not currently in place nor will it be for a long time. As an example, how about attempting a road trip across the U.S. Would one have to stop every couple of hundred miles for a recharge? Will Motel 6 have charging stations? Thanks but I'll keep my gas burners.
