Mirror Power Tap for Radar Detector?

Has anyone used one of the available mirror wire tap kits to power their radar detector? Please explain the procedure for opening up the mirror to tap in the wire leads to an available power source (where?) I have a 2018 C63S.

id personally just run a power and ground wire down to passenger side fuse box.

I can make a harness to do this if you would like. i personally wouldnt tap in at the mirror as i dont think that circuit has enough juice. Does the radar give a current consumption rating?

Beside that, I don’t think there’s constant juice there until you turn on the signal, no?

I like this idea...any particular fuse you would tap into?

I'm hesitant in running a wire up the inside of the A pillar cover and under the upper windsheild molding. Do these panels need to be removed or can they be pried slightly open with a trim tool? Its so easy to break plastic trim ($$.)
Currently my 'easy' solution is to plug the power cord into the rear console plug and route the wire forward pushing it into the gap under the console/dash trim on the passenger side. It comes out behind the media display screen and there is only a short inch or two exposed before it plugs into the radar unit. Its only exposed at the rear power plug in connection before it fits into this gap, unseen unless your in the back seat.

I had my radar installed at the top on the windshield just to the left/driver side of the mirror. The power cord ran along the top edge of the windshield, the top of the driver's window, down the backside of the B-pillar, and under the floor mat to the rear power outlet. The cord was easily pushed under the headliner and in between the trim cracks very easily. Drove it like that for over 4 years without any issues.

It takes all of 5 minutes to run it to the fuse box. Drivers side has one switched fuse, and you can add one depending on your model.

I think it takes less time to run it to the drivers fuse box than take apart the mirror assembly.

If you search there’s a good thread that covers all of this already.

I don't have any pics of the install. I sold the car a few months ago, so I can't go take any pics either. If you go look your the car though, it's pretty self explanatory.

Truthfully, I installed it this way with the full intention of eventually hard-wiring it to the fuse box. I just never got around to doing it because this way worked well enough.

Sadly there are no fuses that are usable in the front seats, at least in the 2021. There's no electrical issues tapping though. Why would a mirror tap void something vs add a fuse not?
