Oem 2019+ facelift tail light swap issue

Hi, swapped in a set of facelift oem 2019+ Led tail lights on my 2018 c63s sedan and now my brake lights do not work. All other lights are working on the tail lights and the hazards are working. Any ideas? I was assuming these were a plug and play. My oem lights were the led versions.

There may be a difference with the new lights or the car needs to be reprogrammed to accept the new lights

I did a similar swap on my daughters CLA. You need coding. I got an OBD plug in device that recoded it for me automatically from the guy that sold me the lights. Worked perfectly.

Thanks guys, I wonder if anyone can chime in with coding specifics that would be needed. I thought this would be a simple plug and play.

Most likely the guy in Michigan can do it if he has the car and would use Vediamo. Possibly he could do it by remote as well. But you'd need software on a laptop connected to your car for that. Guy I used mitigated that by creating the OBD connector that does it automatically. If it turns out to be too much of a hassle. You might have to bag it and either return or sell the new lights.

That’s what I’m hoping for. I’m used to vcds for my Audi and Lamborghini, but have never done Mercedes Benz coding. I’m figuring it’s something simple. If not, I’ll just remove the lights and put the oem LED’s back in.

UPDATE: The facelift tail lights are 100% plug and play. After installation, I tested them and everything worked except the brakes which is why I originally posted this thread. I realized that I did all of that testing with the car off/in the acc position. Once I started the car, The lights function as normal including the brake lights. I always thought that brake lights still worked with the car off. On the w205, only the hazards work with the car off. With the car in the acc position, the other lights work except for the brake lights.

Lights look awesome, especially at night! However, drove the car at night for the first time and am getting the "rear side marker light out" notification now so there may be some minor coding involved.

Keep us posted. A lot of people including myself, will want to know the results. Especially with the " "rear side marker light out" error.

(is it popping up in your dash ? )

Yes, its popping up on the dash, but visually everything is working. Once you hit the button to clear the warning it does not pop up again, so I may live with it until I hear of a coding fix.

Interesting that you like the facelift rear lights haha

I actually prefer the pre-FL rear lights - more distinctive and like a Mercedes

Also lowkey like the pre-FL headlights with the double bulb more too

I wasn't aware the rear lights had changed - saw a video comparison between the changes and it was never even mentioned there. Headlights were, and like most I prefer the old ones; quite a mixed bag FL to me aside from the technical improvements.

Anyone have comparison images?

Agreed. The new ones might work a little better as they say. Pre-FL work fine. Sometimes when they change things just to change things. Doesn't mean it's going to look better. In this case to me it doesn't.

we used to do this in the VW community with the euro LEDs, we would put "resistors" adaptors and they "trick" the signal , where coding is not needed.

But what if I got a USA version of the tail lamps? Would any coding be needed?

It's going to take coding. No way around it. I messed around for months on a conversion for my daughter's CLA. Not worth the trouble. Pre-FL lights look fine. Spend the time and money on something else. Here's the link to the thread for the front and rear LED swap.

Thanks for your response, can a dealership or a private coder do it?

I haven’t driven the car, but I got the error message at night. I’m not sure if I’ll keep the tails or switch back to the oem led’s.
