That look so horrible. I don’t think I can deal with that. I would have it paint.

Those aren't drums the rust is on the rotor hat. Not much you can do other than to clean it, prime it, and paint it. That's happened to all my cars.

And now I even spray new discs weeks before fitting .

Car manufacturers are slowly catching on .

Mine were ceramic coated from new and are still spotless. On my old 2017 car I didn't do that and they looked just like yours above.

I noticed you're in NYC. Lots of salt in the winter and salt residue in the summer. And, if you drive to the coast, more salt...

Quick fix for rusty rotors

I own a body shop and on my personals I've always removed the wheels , sand the rotors down with a 180 grit sand paper ( if its rough ) if its mild and mostly surface rust I use 400 grit . I sand it thoroughly, afterwards I scuff it with a scotch brite very well. Then clean the rotor, wipe it down with acetone/lacquer thinner, blow it , no need to tape up brake rotor because when you spray mildly around the upper part of the rotor your brake pads cut a perfect line and removes excess paint. You can pick up a can of ( transtar 2 n 1 primer/sealer) , preferably grey . Pick up a can of dupli 3m black or silver . Put 2 decent coats of primer and afterwards DO NOT RESAND with your sandpaper , just scotch brite it again to scratch it up enough to paint. When you spray your color just remember not to be impatient, put mild coats while rotating your hub assembly. ( hint, sometimes it's better to steal ya wife's hairdryer while she's not looking to heat in between coats to keep moisture from blushing your color ) . After you dust a decent mild coat on , let it set for 5 to 10 minutes before you apply your second and just repeat that process until its coated well. If you feel you want a little more protection ? Purchase a can of Jam clear ( you can pick all these products up at your local auto body store). Just put a couple mild coats of clearcoat on the rotor and tadaaaaa.. Don't take it to a body shop , they're basically gonna do this process but possibly with a tad better product but the outcome is the same, they'll charge ya about 275 to 500 depending on shop to do this process and it'll take em less than a couple hrs.

.
Thanks for info. I will print out. This past thursday I went to 1 reputable Body shop but he did not want to tackle it.
. I live in a co-op with an indoor multi car closed heated garage which would make it impossible to complete all the steps needed. Plus I feel (know) I would make a mess of things.
. With your printed info will find another shop this week.
. Frustrated, I have only 6,000 miles to have this happen but do love my car. Get many compliments.
. Thanks agsin.

Yes next week going to get these rotor hats ceramic coated. I purchase my 2019 C63s coupe in April 2019 and now with 6,000 miles both rear rotor hats have rusted.
Before I undertook a project I went this past week to MB Dealership and service manager saw the rear rotors and said ok authorized both rotors replaced under warranty. Within 2 hours I was on my way with 2 new rear rotors.

I was having the same rust issue

I know i'm replying to this 8 months too late, but I recently did a less involved process compared to what Grant posted. I just picked up a 2012 C63 a few weeks back and the front & rear brakes had just been done prior to purchase. Not even 100 miles in and all 4 rotors were beginning to become a rusty orange eye sore. I used some Brakleen, steel wool and VHT caliper paint to get the job done. I took some before & after pics, overall i'm happy with the end result - it got rid of the rust and protected the rotor hats.

I was going to lift mine and paint but I ended up steel wooling and WD-40ing and it looks great. I think. I was able to get my little hand inside to rub the rust out.

A bit late to the game, too, but yeah, not much you can do about this other than driving in less corrosive environments or coating the material. With the rear rotors being single piece, the hat is steel, so it'll rust. On the C63 S, the front rotors are two piece with the hat made out of aluminum, so no rust. One way to avoid this is to put two piece rotors on the rear as well with an aluminum hat. But rusty brakes all comes down to the environment you drive in. Below are my original rear rotors at near 30k miles here in the dry Northern California climate, despite living right next to the Pacific Ocean. They stay rust free without the corrosives found in climates with snow and salt on the roads.

*****I did the same after using a wire wheel brush to scrape off all of the rust and doing some metal prep for the VHT to stick better. My car came from Chicago and the previous owner drove the car in the snow a couple of times I think as the undercarriage area above the pan cover had salt marks on it, etc.. I washed everything thoroughly before buttoning all back up again.

I'll take some pics later but I am really happy with how everything came out!
