Engine Sound Pumped into speakers... can it be disabled

Hello Guys...

Had different cars in the past mainly BMWs that had this active sound design played trough the speakers and its pretty ghastly IMO.

Is there a way to disable this?

Thanks
JC

Currently there's no way of disabling this in the Facelift C63 models (not that we know of).

BMW is infamous for playing pre-recorded engine sound, essentially a WAV file, into the cabin, and I agree that's as awful as it gets. There's no confirmation that the 2019+ C63 has engine sound through the speakers or some other means, and there's no particulate filters in the US models based on the build sheets and actual exhaust pictures. There is no active sound module based on the research of some folks. Others claim they can hear it after modifying the exhaust. The all-new A45 is confirmed to have what's called AMG pure performance sound. It directs actual exhaust noise from the car into the cabin. Not sure exactly how they do it, if via a mic or a some kind of a membrane, but the key is that it is the actual sound the car makes, just amplified for the occupants, given that the cars are forced to be quieter outside due to the EU regulations. The AMG GT Black Series also has this and it's quite loud compared to what the car actually sounds like outside the cabin. If the FL C63 indeed has it, then I find it to be done quite well. It corresponds to what the car actually sounds like outside and it still sounds great on its own. Constantly getting thumbs up from car enthusiasts and neighbors. I pretty much always drive around with the exhaust open. The FL is much quieter if you just drive it casually, an aspect that makes it a better GT, but it roars and pops when you get on it. As I've said before, I prefer how the FL sounds inside and outside over the PFL.

Unfortunately, this is where it's going, though. Not sure folks realize how quiet exhausts are gonna get based on the EU noise regulations that get more strict every year, but when it's all said and done, they'll sound like hair dryers. I don't mind enhanced cabin sound as long as it is the car's real sound and not something that was previously recorded. There have been systems like this in the past, that use membranes in the firewall to pipe real engine sound into the cabin. With all the noise insulation modern cars have, that's not a bad thing. Keep out the road noise, but let the engine and exhaust noise in.

I can't tell if my 2020 C63s coupe has fake sound getting pumped in through speaker, but if it does, it surely does sound much better than fake artificial sound coming from my M4 competition.

Laying the rear seat-backs down will provide more of the exhaust sound. It's especially effective on the track (especially if you're running with a group that runs "windows up").

Unfortunately, MBZ is working to perfect "manufactured" sound ...

All tracks should be windows UP unless you have a window net ...

I had to put my stock downpipes back and I could tell right away that the sound is in fact getting through the speakers after driving for a few month with catted dp.

Maybe you can just pull it out and disconnect it?
I wouldn't fiddle around with it though.

Here it is, one seller claims it comes with a few different .WAV files installed. The purpose is to make the interior sound emit a "USA V8" tone according to the German guys on motor-talk W205 forums.

Don't be tempted to load your own little sound files on it.

I have a 2019 and heard they have the sound generator module. Wondering if anyone has had any luck coding it out or finding where the module is as well.

Facelift C63s absolutely has sound pumped in from speakers. One way to tell is to listen how it sounds inside the cabin with the exhaust button off and then on. I don't care at all though, sounds awesome.

Agreed, but I only know of 1 group that runs that way, in this area. All the rest are mandatory "driver's window down" so you can point-by for passing. "Windows up" is safer but does require a different point-by protocol.

Sorry, didn't mean to get too far off-topic.

According to the parts diagram, A2059006928 (230) looks like it's under or behind the glove box 🤔

2020 C63
Hi guys, new on here! I registered exactly because of this issue, I have a 2020 C63 (with the dreaded OPF) and that fake noise is driving me nuts, it sounds like a Taycan coupled to a Civic inside. Has anyone managed to disconnect it?

To top it off, I've replace the backboxes with something fruitier (to compensate for the OPF robbing the sound), and it now sounds good outside, but the fake noise thing seems to amplify the volume, so outside = louder V8 sound now, and inside = louder Taycan/Civic.

For my sanity, help is required...

I’m curious about this too. I got downpipes and feel like the “artificial” noise has gone up a lot and it’s quite annoying. I also would love to know if it’s possible to remove it.

Would downpipes affect the artificial sound generator? Perhaps it's a combo of having the louder natural sound from the downpipes plus the artificial speaker sound and now it's generating some weird frequencies in cabin with both together.

If you get a chance, could you video it from inside maybe? Keen to hear the sound you're talking about.

Meanwhile sold and traded in for a 2018 E63 S without OPF, I couldn't stand it anymore.

Just to fully understand this cabin noise enhancer, if you close the exhaust valves via the switch on the console (making the exhaust system quieter) , does that turn off the artificial sound enhancer inside the car?

Mine didn't have the optional exhaust so no switch. The enhancing was always there, and was amplified once the aftermarket system was fitted.
