Question Audio in the C63 Convertible (vs M4)

Hey guys,

So my current daily driver is a 2017 M4 Convertible. I've been toying with the idea of swapping into a 2017-2018 C63 instead (not a fan of the facelift, and I want the louder exhaust note). I really wanna make the switch for many reasons (Distronic Plus with adaptive cruise control, a true 360 degree cam, more pleasant ride compared to the M4, I prefer the MB ergonomics, etc). But I do have one major concern. I listen to a lot of audio (lectures, not music) given how long my work commute is. And I don't wanna lose that ability.

he audio system in the M4 is phenomenal. I mean, you can have the top down and with the volume turned up 3/4 of the way, and it is LOUD and clear (again, I'm talking about speech from a lecture...not blasting music). And this is at any speed (even at 90 - 100 mph on the highway, the audio is still excellent with the top down and all the windows down).

I know on my C63 Edition 1 Coupe, it's pretty hard to hear any lecture audio with all the windows and pano roof open. So I'm worried it'll be just as bad if not worse in a C63 convertible. I test drove the 2020 convertible the other day, and the audio was pretty good. But I don't wanna make the assumption that it would be the same in the 2017-2018 (leaning toward a 2017 at present).

Can any of you convertible owners chime with your $0.02 on the audio?

Thanks for your time!

I’ve had phone conversations with the top down on the freeway (with windows up and rear curtain extended). Never had a problem hearing the audio system on the freeway at 80mph with the top and windows down and I listen to a lot of talk radio (mainly Howard Stern-I like his guest interviews and musical guests). I also listen to music and the audio is decent quality... as good as any stock decent system anyway.

Pre facelift Burmester was just OK with little to no bass. But it was very much improved in the facelift. I'd go with a facelift and an exhaust mode

SDRider, thanks for the feedback.

NYCSoiL, I agree; my '17 is the same. Mids/highs aren't bad at all, but the bass...it left much to be desired. What was improved upon audio-wise with the facelift?

As for the facelift, I don't like the new grill, I absolutely don't like the new steering wheel, and have read the plethora of complaints on this forum about the facelift being much quieter due to the European emissions requirements and particle filter. Only upside is the new larger screen and native Carplay IMO.

Mercedes went with absolutely new speakers for the facelift, there's now a good amount of mids/highs and of course the bass is there now too. The steering wheel is actually better than the pre facelift, you just need a few days to get used to it. Yes it is quieter but there are a few options that can help you with that. I went with flaps always open mode and I'm pretty much happy with it.

Nothing you should worry about. I feel the C63s cabriolet sound still better then the M4 top up or down. I currently own both.

Awesome. I was sure I wasn't the only one who owns both a C63 and M4

Given the point about the upgraded Burmester system in the facelift models, what year is your C63?

Nice rides! Your C63 looks Awesome with the White/Black combo and wheels/emblems. Black interior? Post some pics.

I just picked up a 2019 63 Cab. It is loaded 86K Designo Cardinal Red Metallic/Plaitium/Black Napa. 2k miles CPO. The price was hard to pass up. Large Florida dealers need to move cars.
