Turbo Screaming?
2018 pre facelift non s coupe, getting a high pitch scream when on full boost and high in rev range, Sport+. Heard this before but it seems to come and go, maybe haven’t noticed much as I normally drive in individual where engine is set to sport, sounds like a supercharger, thoughts?

You may have a boost leak - check the hoses off the turbos for any cracks/leaks. You may want to look at both turbo compressor wheels (and turbine wheels with a mirror) as well and make sure there’s no damage/chips/bends to the wheel fins.

Just been out in car again and I think its more attributable to when Ive taken foot off the accelerator the turbo is slowing down, difficult to say as its intermediate

Could be an issue with your diverter valves. Hunting down issues like this is really something you should consider letting the dealership look into (assuming you still have a warranty).

Had the same problem at around 13k miles. I got pure900 turbos and dp at 20k miles. Problem is completely gone

I still have another year of warranty but garage always ask for you to replicate and as it’s intermittent I’ll struggle to demonstrate. Could temperature play a part? Cooler air?

have that happen with mine too. it only happens to me when under full acceleration and when the car is near redline right before shift point, i can hear it for less than 1 second but happens everytime in Sport+/Race and it seems its only in 3rd gear and up. not sure either what it could be, i have to say though that it only showed up after tuning

I swear I have heard this on mine a few times with all windows down and sunroof open in Sport+ mode only (it seems). Does yours make a sort of "heeee" sound?

I've tried to make it happen but it seems random only in Sport+ and giving it the beans.

I hate strange noises it makes me paranoid that something needs fixing again. Argh

It almost sounds like a supercharger​​​​​​, it’s intermittent and bizarrely when I hear it it’s on the same stretch of road

I hear a similar (but very faint) noise when cold 3000/3500 revs

Warranty don’t want to know unless I can replicate

I’m with you on the strange noise thing, I swear I’m cursed, I hear the handbrake go on and ask myself is it too loud, I hear the cooling fan running and ask myself is it too loud

Man I think we are long lost twins. Exactly the same with me. It seems like no matter how expensive the car we buy, or how much money we pour into them, there's always some other issue that's going to happen. At times I just exhale and think, man when will I ever just be able to buy a nice car that doesn't make me think "wtf was that sound now?".

You even mentioned the handbrake being too loud. Ha, here's my thread about that very sound here!

I've noticed this sound as well from time to time, always high RPM. Haven't paid too much attention to what mode I was in or what gear I was in. Will try to pay attention next time.

I have the same exact problem has near redline and also in sport mode, sounds like a turbo whine , anyone find out what this is? Seems like a few people are talking about it in another post as well. Mainly hearable with the windows down

I also started hearing some strange whine last week when driving hard. It does not happen every time. I managed to stop and record it while parked and it's very clear. Seemed to be coming more from the passenger side.

hey mate, are you still running pure 900 turbos? You only need retune when you upgrade turbos right? No issues at all? Thanks

0 problems so far. 11k miles with pure 900. Tcu need tuning or get one of those upgrade mct 7 speed from weistec to take full advantage of ny stage 2 turbos and need csf heat exchanger as things get pretty hot when you’re driving hard in 90f plus

If it makes you feel any better my 2016 C63S Coupe has done this for over 2 years now after tuning it over 620hp. I'm talking PEDAL TO THE FLOOR, RACE MODE with ESP on SPORT+ it'll sing from about 5000rpm until redline............. It's normal especially for tuned as you're running higher boost pressures.......... you are all paranoid 😂

Who in this topic is not tuned? I'd bet all of you are running higher boost............
