Tune Recommendations

I bought a JB4 for my car. The install is too much of a hassle so I'm going to return and just for a flash tune. I know most people go with EC, DME, or Kirklandhans. Can you guys drop your experiences below? Please do not turn this into a bash fest I just want honest experiences. Right now I'm thinking Stage 2 EC with dp and handheld(for ease of use)

UPDATE:
It's for 2020 C63 Sedan

I have heard good things about him. Does he have a website or something with more info? The reason why I was sticking towards a company was so I can get a handheld

Velos here...easy to flash and put back to stock with the handheld. Never had a problem, runs smooth like stock just more oomph. Good, responsive service too.

The handheld is absolute junk. It takes 15 min to flash a car and can error out hallway. With kirklandhans you can also change factory firmware on the carand it takes 1 min to load files.

He is friends with ptg and tunes for them. You actually send PayPal to ptg.

If you have a xentry setup he will setup vidiamo with you and show you how to set it up to data log your car with the hardware and software amg uses to log the car. You can see data on all 6 map sensors and its lighting fast logging.

Hit him up on Instagram and let him know I sent you and you will be surprised how good of a deal you can get through him..

Here is his home made software flashing my car!

DME stage 2 w/ catless. My genius handheld unit works perfectly and very easy to load tune. No need to switch back to stock as once you go catless DP you can’t go back to stock tune without getting a CEL anyway.

service from DME has been great. My car is a beast now. Check out videos on my IG - amg63daily

You unfortunately had a defective JB4 box, but glad you're happy with your flash tuning.

If you don't care about warranty or lease return then flashing can be a great option. The JB4 install for the platform is tricky but once you've done it once to figure out how the covers come off it's really not that bad.

I have my warranty for another 3 years or so, this is precisely why the JB4 makes the most sense. No product is without defects now and then and I assume you would address the problem if someone else experienced the same issue as the poster above.
Ive already ordered a ModalWorks intake and turbo blanket
Now if I could only figure out DPs or exhaust that be switched back easily in case I needed the dealer to fix something lol

If something goes really wrong and MB techs dig in they will be able to tell if a JB4 or other piggy back was used just like a removable flash tune.

It's very obvious. Broken connectors, harnesses routed incorrectly, bolts put back wrong or missing. Unless you work on these cars for a living there is pretty much zero chance the installer will put everything back like it's supposed to be. You'll also immediately feel how much better the transmission shifts and responds since it's not being lied to.

+1 for Kirkland at PTG tuning while i'm in here.

Checked out your gram, looks like you car moves out pretty good. I just left my DME dealer inquiring about a tune. On the fence about the downpipes. They said flash it stage II for now and add the DP's later.

My question is did you get the pops with just the downpipes like that or did you get the pops added?

Is the TCU tune required for stage 1 or 2?

No not at all. You will be fighting for traction almost 80% of the time. I would say yes on a awd platform like the e63.

It's pretty easy to follow the directions and not break anything installing or removing, and no digital footprint is left behind. Worst case you have a fighting chance with the JB4 vs best case with flash is zero chance.

I am pretty sure that even after removing JB4 some digging in the memory will tell the experienced tech that the parameters sent were outside the OEM ranges...you can remove the JB4 but you can't remove all historical values stored in several locations - at least that what I was told. Same for flash, an untrained eye does not see the changes after flashing back but the experienced tech will see the history.

Renntech vote here. Slightly more $ but super simple and rock solid.

Vehicle: 2019 C63 AMG barely driven, under 5K miles. Intake and DP are installed.

Just received my hand held DME tune. Very bad experience. Install was about 15 minutes after receiving the S2 files.

issue: car runs like 10% over stock. DME S2 was very disappointing, I didn’t get any wow or OMG my car pulls. It seems like the intake and DP had more of a OMG factor after the installed than the DME.

Notice boost gauge reads up to 3/4 at WOT, every gear. Contacted DME and the tech pretty much said after market intake is garbage and to run the stock box. Wasted my time reinstalling my stock box to see no change. Contact them again, he said I’m running crap gas and to run 2 gallons of E85. Said the 3/4 boost was due to pulling timing. Like who runs E85 every day in a tune car to daily drive it.

pretty much out $2000 just to hear the car pop and burble more. Car barely losses traction. I wish I would of stick to JB4 as I had good experience with JB4 in my E92 just didn’t like the install I’ve heard people complaining about for the w205 C63.

no way their numbers they claim on there website is true or maybe something went wrong with the tune files. Over 100HP claims, the car should gain more then the intake and the DP alone.

The numbers are accurate...I had a DME stage 2 done over a year ago..the increase was huge and very noticeable...not a problem since..there is def. Something wrong with yours if you're barely seeing a difference.

Alec at PTG (Precision Tuning Group) hooked me up with their stage 2 tune. Now I can say, OMG this thing pulls and brakes traction, scary at times. This was what I was expecting out of a stage 2 ECU tune and not having to mess with the CPC.

Special thanks to Alec at PTG.
