$3000 for replacing one fuel injector???

Dealer diagnosed the cause of my sporadic cylinder #2 misfire was due to a bad fuel injector.

they quoted $3000 to replace one injector because they said the engine has to be unbolted to roll the engine to be able to get the injector out.

Does this sound right? Does the engine really need to be unbolted to get the injector out?

Don’t know the answer to that question but I would never take my AMG to a dealer for repairs once the warranty’s done. Plenty of second party euro specific auto shops that do great work I’d go to first.

A new fuel injector costs about $165. Part number is: 2560700187

https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/mercedes-fuel-injector-bosch-2560700187

Unless they anticipate 18 hours of labor at $150/hr to replace a single fuel injector, sounds like you need to find an Indy shop or different dealership... or DIY.

Change coils and plugs first and run a bottle of injector cleaner.

Interesting, when I put my model year and zip code into that link it comes up with $1385-$1631 for replacing ONE of them.

I called another local shop that specializes in Mercedes, and they quoted me a similar price.

I thought about changing it myself, but I don’t have xentry to re-code the injectors.

Both the dealer and local shop won’t just do the coding if I did the replacement myself.. they said they would need to do the injector replacement AND the coding.

Option, buy the part and install / code yourself using Autel MaxiPRO MP808TS for under 1k USD. It will give you full details including logs of injectors and duties.
If a coil is out or even a plug it will tell you.
Have had this tool for a few months now and does about 80% of what xentry will do.
With my estate being so modded this scan tool has already paid for it's self. Highly recommend it.

CODING IS ALL HUFF!

I haven't changed out my injectors but so far I haven't needed to code any repairs. Coding parts is all huff to deter people from fixing their own vehicles. Unless we are talking transmission rebuild. I bought MaxiSys MS906TS. Which is a really cool thing to have but most cheap OBDII scanners can clear codes. MaxiSys can reprogram modules.

I can't for see that an injector wouldn't be plug and play.

Dealerships charge premium price and perform substandard work; they're thieves.

That's a pretty full on kit there but looks promising. Can the MaxiSys MS906TS find and reset soft codes such as soft limp mode or exhaust flap malfunctions? Seems like a good bit of kit.

OP the injectors are $700 each in Australia from Mercedes so whoever told the you $3000 in the US for a single injector plus labour is fkn dreaming 😂

MaxiSys MS906TS has programming functions. ECU can be reset/reprogrammed. If a code is cleared from the vehicle and the physical problem still exists the code will come back.
