Engine bay heat relief...
Hey all, quick question, as we know the engine bay of the M177 gets mighty hot. I have been told of this "cool" (no pun intended) hack to help get the hot air out simply by cutting the seal at the back of the engine bay right behind the turbos and dump pipes. Makes sense to me as air flows from the front and will push the hot air out but has anyone done it and can recommend or not recommend (& why) before I go hacking away at this area.... cheers

Just curious, but what problem are you trying to solve? Do you have an issue with the engine overheating or showing a significant loss in performance? The engineers who designed these cars know quite well how much heat there is and have taken measures to provide enough cooling, including blowing the fans for several minutes sometimes after parking the car to cool the turbos. In engineering we have an understanding that premature optimization is the root of all evil. There's no point in optimizing something before you understand the problem you are trying to solve and can effectively measure the before and after to determine if the optimization actually achieved what you were trying to solve, or if it had unintended consequences.

The idea looks like a great way for snow, rain, ice, rodents and leaf debris to enter the engine bay, drain or fall onto the hot turbos and cause all manner of problems.

im trying to solve heat potentially. No I don't have overheating issues at present but you do if you give the car a massive thrash for an extended period. Like a track day. I also am in the plans for adding bigger turbos and WMI and revised tune so heat may become and issue. I agree in what you said about the engineers etc but that is based on a stock set up and a 50 + year old male driving his mid life crisis into the ground by doing hot laps around the local shops...
