Zac Black Alloy intake question

Hello everyone. ZAC is comming with new black alloy intakes for the w205 and its for a reasonable price. Is this considered a cold air intake? They do provide heatshields with them. I've tried looking allover to find some more info about these ,but nothing comes up. What performance gains can I expect with a stage 2 car?

Did you reach out to ZAC ? considering they havnt released them yet, I would assume they are the only ones that have any info on them. looks like they pretty much copied Modal Works, and others..

I prefer CF if done correctly, as it reduces Weight, and more importantly doesnt retain heat the same as metals...
I will wait for someone to actually get it and install, so voice my opinion on it then.. I am happy with my MW at the moment.

I would buy it right away if it's a confirmed cold air intake

not sure what you expect. It says it’s aluminum mandrel bend. So, its the same as the CF version but aluminum. Latter for sure has a much different heat conduction factor but not worse like BMS or others none CF versions. Not sure what you think defines a cold air intake - the name came from early days when intakes were designed to suck air from front or under car where air is colder. Some still have those design where engine layout allows it. Like my Nismo had AEM intakes which had tubes under front of bumper. Most what is called “cold air intakes” today are not “cold” but just allow more air into it. ZAC calls them SHF - super high flow. Same here and same for MW or even eventuri or Weistec. Any heat shielding here is to avoid to have even hotter air sucked in but for sure not “cold air”. No such thing when sucking in air next to turbo and not from somewhere where air is actually colder.

Btw, I am going to sell my ZAC CF with heatshields soon. So, if you want CF ZAC below even those “black metal” versions, PM me.

I thought OEM air boxes were closed off and had air funneled to them from the front end🤷‍♂️? These after market ones are not closed off so the intake air temperature must be higher. PM'D

the modalworks ones use the factory air intakes from the front of car , and the housing around the filter seals against the hood when its closed.

so of these others do NOT do that and yes you end up sucking in more hot air then cold from outside.

the ZAC heat shields have a very similar effect, neither are perfect but none of the intakes are in that regard. They shield the heat from the turbo and still get the air from the same intake funnels the care comes with OEM.
