Magnet on front passenger seat

I enjoy learning about quirks and features vehicles have to offer.

The other day I was browsing an Australian AMG forum and across a post which stated that the front passenger seat has a magnet built into the side in order to stick the seatbelt anchor point to it so it doesn't rattle.

Tried it on my car yesterday and what do you know...it's true. It seems like I am always learning something new about this car.

That’s interesting. Seat belt rattling sometimes bothered me.
I will try this tomorrow!

Yeah I've found it doesn't work that well for me as the belt buckle still pops off when driving and starts clanging around.

How are you finding it? Is yours holding?

I looked for the magnet before and couldn't find it, but I just tried again based on the pic and yes it's there. Not a very strong magnet, though. With my passenger seat position it doesn't really work. If the passenger seat is almost all the way back, then the seat belt buckle rattles against the airbag plastic cover, but if you move the seat a bit forward then it doesn't happen. That's what I did. It's adjusted for my wife, who is short. I don't think the buckle would stay on the magnet around a hard corner.

Maybe adding a strong magnet on top of the buckle would work for track days. If you have/get a failed spinning/hard disk drive and take it apart, you'll find a strong "rare earth" magnet or two that can be removed (they are part of the linear motor that moves the read/write head).

I tried it this morning and mine is stuck there pretty well. Just make sure that the exposed metal part of seat belt is sitting flush on the leather part with magnet.

To be honest I haven't driven the car since my last post. I did notice the magnet didn't seem that strong though.....

Just googled AMG race seat magnet and this came up which clearly shows where its located.

My snap was a pretty s*** quality, it was meant for my brother who also has a 63.

Didn't know there was magnets there until this thread.
It is pretty much the spot in the photo, just got home from some twisty roads with a mate and the buckle didn't fall off once. The magnets seem pretty strong in my seats and the passenger seat wasn't in line with the b pillar either.

Me, like everyone else, checking it out for the first time:

"Well, I'll be damned"

Tried to have the latch wrapped over the side bolster, but that never stayed. Then recently started just connecting the seatbelt. This changes things.

I wish that the magnet was lower down the seat, to where the bottom stop for the latch is. Looks like you have to manually raise up the belt to place it there.

Ok, so I tried it as well, with the top down and a 10 minute ride it was off when I got back home.

I confirmed it's on my 2021 Coupe, however the real problem I see with this is that you have to set it in place from the driver seat because when you open and then close the door the automatic seat belt extender activates and well - it's kicked right off the magnet. Good idea, but I think I would rather wrap it with a seat belt cover.

I just checked my performance seats on GLC63 amercian model and there is a magnet on it as well. But I didn't know that from day 1 so I've always used a different method by tucking the buckle on the cobby where it extend out a bit, it stays up there really well and it doesn't budge.
