Cabrio Lowering Options - Anyone Lower a Cabriolet with just Springs?

I contacted Eibach and they do not recommend their coupe/sedan lowering springs to be put on the cabrio model (weight distribution issues, cabrio unit in the rear weighs more).

I also contacted H&R, the representative stated the same reason at first why they only offer a sedan/coupe variant and that it will NOT work on the cabriolet. However, after putting me on hold, they apparently spoke to their German tech and it was confirmed that their coupe springs will fit the cabrio. She said it will work, I can order the part (part number 28766-2) for my car. I wasn't given much more information. Another local H&R distributor said he won't guarantee that the car will sit properly/evenly and the only way to dial it in is to get the VTF setup. Which will make it sit perfectly. He said if I do the springs only, instead of a .8 drop, I might see 1.2-1.3 inches of a drop. Which isn't bad?

Frankly, I'm a little confused by H&R's answer, why not advertise that they DO work on the cabriolet then? The representative notified me that they will actually be updating their catalogue to represent this... That the coupe springs are proper fitment for the Cabrio.

I'm wondering if anyone on this form has lowered a cab on just springs? Obviously I can always do KW or VTF kit but I'm trying to get away with just doing lowering springs.

I think what they're really getting at is that it will work in theory, it's the same suspension at the end of the day. Now due to more weight on the rear of the car 1.2/3" is going to be pushing it in the rear and may cause rubbing issues not to mention the rear will sit lower than the .8 in the front so at the end of the day it might even look a little off.

I think for the rather small difference in cost I would not even consider just lowering springs. HAS kits are cheap enough, as easy to install as springs, retain the damper adjustments and you can tune how low you want to go anytime. Just no reason to go with springs. I had several sets on different cars and they never work perfect..not low enough, too low, uneven front and rear etc. Avoid the hassle and use HAS/VTF.

Yeah I was hoping someone out there has put springs on a cabrio so I could see what it would look like prior to committing to it.

H&R has been in the industry for a long time and I don't think they would recommend anything that wouldn't function as it should... hence why I am confused. Performance and looks is all apart of the equation with lowering springs... so my thought train is that they wouldn't say yes do it, unless it looked good and performed as it should. The representative said the coupe springs will work, and that they will update their catalogue to reflect that,

I'll look into KW HAS. Approx. 3x the cost from my mechanic. Is it worth it? I've done H&R springs before and have been happy.

Well, I bought H&R and Eibach for cars listed w/o any questions...and yes they worked but looked awful. Eibachs tend to sit low in the rear/high in front - had that on two cars in a row. H&R was even level but not low enough on my F82. I would not give too much to it if a sales rep says they work...yes, they will fit but that's the only guaranty you get. JMO

It's interesting you posted this, I'm waiting on my wheels to come in and next up is lowering springs. I was thinking H&R and HAS I guess HAS it is.
