2000 mile rear diff oil change C63S Revisited

I know we had some discussion on this when I first asked if it was still needed -- today I had the 2000 mile service completed, and spoke to an advisor who agreed it was still a required service (and included in my pre-paid maintenance) No one in the shop suggested it was not needed either when I asked around. Anyway - that's that.

Thanks for bringing this up. I just hit 2k miles and unfortunately the MB service system only has the 10k miles service listed so I had forgot about it. I just made my appointment for next week.

Most dealer won't do this anymore as this service is no longer listed as required service on their system for FL cars.
If you have pre-paid maintenance, you can push dealer to do it for free.
Otherwise, you can also pay dealer to do it... I think it costs somewhere around $150 to get it done from dealer.

The dealer I had the service performed at was not the dealer I bought the car from (not even the same state) -- they didn't even question the service at all -- and when I inquired if it "was needed" (and still in the AMG supplemental owner manual) with the electronic limited slip diff they simply said "yes, it should be done". That was that. Your experience may vary -- but if one does it, they should all do it.

I just checked and it is listed in the AMG owners manual, page 12 in the 'Notes on the locking differential' section. This section is after the Breaking-in notes section. If the dealer is giving you trouble with this I would bring it up to MB corporate.

I wanted to follow up on this issue.

My dealer said that the 2,000 mile differential fluid change is no longer required and that the AMG owners manual is wrong. To confirm this I contacted MB corporate directly and had a product specialist look into this. The product specialist confirmed that the AMG owners manual is wrong and that the change is for 30,000 miles now. They said a dealership inquired about this 2 weeks ago so they did research and confirmed that it was no longer required. They are going to be putting out an official service bulletin to dealerships on this.

In theory you can still get it done if you wanted to be extra cautious but the prepaid maintenance plans will not cover it.

Stating that the pre-paid maintenance plans will not cover is simply not true - see the picture above, I paid ZERO dollars. Until there is a service bulletin change (and a corresponding owner manual / AMG supplement change) I would get this service, and make sure it was included if you have the pre-paid maintenance!
